Hi from uk all wheels on your vehicle should be fully interchangable to any axle/side however on a number of cars now the spare wheel in uk are a what is called SPACE SAVER this is usually a steel rim painted red with a smaller tyre that is for emergency/get you home only till origional wheel /tyre is fixed ?? only other problem you could have with wheels/tyrs when interchanging is many high spec wheels are what is called ROTATIONAL TREADS the tread pattern on each tyre must be fitted correctly in rotation of wheel for displacement of rain on road for one instance ? so if you change wheel from right front to left ? the rotation pattern on tyre faces wrong way hope you understand ?

Not sure of your exact vehicle as I have not had to work on one, but usually the wheel speed sensor is interchangeable from side to side, but not front to back.

Our 1996 nissan terrano shakes out of control when going over 80kms on the motorway and its feels like it might tip over but doesnt as we reduced our speed. Do you think it could be the wheel alignment or...

Shakes? Not very specific. It could be a loose wheel, wheel out of balance, the balance weights may have come off one or more wheel rims (check for the marks on the rims inner and outer rim where they used to be).
As 1996 model, it could also be worn out suspension bushes.
If you drive on a straight road, and you change from accelerating, to decelerating, does the car skew (turn left or right slightly), this would indicate worn suspension bushes at the rear, acceleration pushes the rear axle forward, deceleration pulls it back, if there is wear (slop) in the rubber bushes, the changing alignment of the rear axle causes the car to "throttle steer". At cruise, this could potentially set up a sort of harmonic motion, and cause a form of "shaking".

2000 dodge caravan rear wheel bearing noise

Hi,

I'm Ben and -- hopefully -- I can provide some meaningful assistance.

Discussion

Replacing the rear wheel bearings on these vans is relatively simple pretty simple. However, the first thing that you must do is satisfy your self that it's the bearing and not something rubbing on a tire or something else back there in the rear.

Follow this steps to diagnose the problem:
  1. Jack up the rear of the car
  2. shake the wheel side to side and top to bottom.
  3. if there is any wobble in it then it is a wheel bearing.
  4. However, you cant alway tell by the shake test.
  5. You can also go down the road and swerve side to side (being careful of oncoming traffic).
  6. Iif you swerve to the right and the noise is loudest on the left side.
  7. If you swerve to the left and its louder its on the right side.

How to remove and replace rear wheel bearings.

Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section of your User Manual.

Remove or disconnect the following:
  1. Rear wheel
  2. Brake drum or caliper
  3. Wheel speed sensor, if equipped
  4. Hub and bearing assembly from the rear axle

To install:

Install or connect the following:

  1. Hub and bearing assembly. Tighten the bolts to 95 ft. lbs. (129 Nm).
  2. Wheel speed sensor, if equipped. Tighten the bolt to 105 inch lbs. (12 Nm).
  3. Brake drum or caliper
  4. Rear wheel
