Question about Sony SLV-940HF VCR

1 Answer

DVD/VCR combo Hi...I'm really hoping you can help me! We have purchased 2 different TVs and 3 different DVD/VCR players and still having the problem of the VCR not playing clearly. Our current equipment is a Dynex LCD flat (Best Buy's brand) and a Sony combo player and when you put a tape in, it will play for a few seconds then it appears to start having tracking problem then the sound quits...then to complete static then "no signal" displays on the screen. This last for a few seconds then the picture/ eventually comes back, but this repeats over and over. I have tried countless different tapes, so I know its not the tapes. I realize we purchased an expensive TV ($250), but the Sony player is pretty good, mid range ($130), and after 3 attempts I just want this to work!!!! This set up is for the kids play room and all they want to do is watch Power Rangers and Barney!!!...which of course is on VHS!!!! I've returned equipment to Target 2 times and Best Buys once..... If you could suggest a remedy for this problem OR suggest some equipment (inexpesive) the would work for us, I will be so grateful!!!! Please help before they send me to the crazy house!!! Thanks!!! Jennifer Taylor

Re: DVD/VCR combo

It could be the tape has dirt on it and it tranfers to the head of your vcr. take it apart and play a vhs take q-tip and hold it on the head, dont push to hard use alcohol and the vid should start to clear up just dont use alot of alcohol or get it to wet

I have a Sylvania 6240VE vcr. When I try to rewind a recorded tape, the vcr ejects the video. I was wanting to purchase a dvd/vcr combo, but the reviews for these items are awful. I tried a Magnavox combo....

When you put the player into rewind, is it at the beginning of the tape that it ejects? If so, it may be because you have the machine in timer mode. If you have a pre-recorded tape in a VCR, it will automatically eject the tape because you`ve not to record on a pre-recorded tape. I hope this help, Ian

Hooking up a d.v.d player to a vcr/tv combo?

RCA plugs (the yellow, red, and white outlets you speak of) consist of a video plug (yellow) and stereo plugs for audio (red and white). Just match the colors from the DVD RCA colors to the RCA hook-ups on the TV (ex. Yellow the Yellow, White to White).

You don't need to worry about the red one, it just makes the DVD player play stereo audio. Instead, you'll have mono, which is fine, and most modern players can detect mono and switch it for you so don't worry about changing settings and what not (unless you're missing sound on one side.)

Hi dennis176,

Unfortunately, I am not aware of this kind of setup. This kind of solution would not be very efficient. For this to work there would need to be an insert to the VCR (similar to that which is used in a cassette player to convert CD audio) attached to a DVD player. Because you would require a device to play the DVD and send the video/audio to the insert (if it existed) it would actually be more efficient to simply connect the DVD player to the television. The reason inserts exist for cassette players is primarily that it prevents replacement of an entire car stereo system. This is not the case with a VCR. You may consider purchasing a DVD/VCR combo if you wish to maintain the ability to play VHS tapes. If you own a TV/VCR combo, your least expensive option would likely be to purchase a separate DVD player.

Thank you,

Rca vcr

there a a bunch of different ways. 1) if you don't have a cable box hooked up to this tv,plug the main cable wire into the vcr input then the vcr outout to the tv.2) if you do have a cable box, plug the main cable into the cable box input, then the output to the vcr input, then the vcr output to the tv. put both the tv & vcr on channel 3 for this connection. [ you must have the vcr on channel 3 to record from the cable box!] 3) if you have aux line/video or source inputs on the back of your tv,you can hook up rca cables [ red, white,& yellow ] from the rca outputs on the vcr to the tv inputs.
hope this helps

Error 2 and error 3 and error 4 are tech codes.
and if your unit won't reset, you can take it to your local
electronic repair shop. I had error 3 on my Phillips,
and he went to the PM webpage, researched it, and fixed it perfectly for $39.00 total. STILL WORKING!
He said it was some little thing to replace that took him 15 minutes.
If you don't want to buy one of the REALLY cheaply made vcrs or DVD/vcr combos that are out now, it worth a little phone time to find
an electronics repair shop. Or the new DVD recorders with vcr combos are very good, but sturdy ones are expensive.

DVD Player/Video Cassette Recorder

Hi It sounds like possibly there is stray RF getting into your video signal from your DVD/VCR combo to your tv. Check that your cables are ok, but also, if you can, try moving the unit in relation to the tv, if it is underneath, try putting it on top or beside the tv, I've seen the effect you describe be cause by lack of sheilding in both the tv and DVD/VCR, and moving the unit could cure it. Good Luck!
