Question about LaCie Ethernet Disk Mini, 500 GB Hard Disk Drive with Gigabit Ethernet & USB 2.0 Interface, 7200 rpm... IDE Hard Drive
Hi I have a Lacie 500 mini, which I have downloaded about 60 GB onto over the course of a month (at very slow speeds, i.e 20 GB took about 17 hours), via ethernet connection.
Then about 1 month ago it has ceased to be recognised by the finder - when I go to "go to server" it tells me that "could not connect to the server because the name or password is not correct" (thes are admin/admin as I have not changed them)
Now there is no way to access the disk - in http it keeps giving me the error: "/www/cgi-bin/public/sharelist: line 41: cannot create temp file for here document: No space left on device"
I took it back to the shop, they tried it and said that the disk has a "chaotic" behaviour, and arranged for Lacie to do something about it under the waranty. However, Lacie say they will give me a new disk and to forget about the data - but I want to retrieve it somehow (without invalidating the warranty)!
Any idea how I can recover the data/repair the disk?
I had exactly the same problem, no access to the windows media server - the no space message - and all my users missing from the user tab.
Following up from gogogo123's comment, we simply cleared the log and it was fine. I can only assume that there is an internal file size limit on the log file, and if it can't write your actions to the log then it doesn't do them!

The same thing happened to my Lacie drive and I stumbled across this thread. I tried the suggested sequence of disabling the media server and clearing the log etc to no avail.
What I found did work was this
1. Make a note of all your usernames and shares for the drive.
2. Factory reset the drive by going through a sequence of holding down the power button. This can be found on the Lacie website
This will reset your drive to the first every software version it came with. However it will also wipe all your usernames and share names. However the data on the drive will not be removed.
3.once reset your drive should have no errors on it. Setup the drive with the username and shares that you noted before.
4. Upgrade the software to version 1.2.1 (latest version)
5. Use the drive like normal.
This method should work as long as the shares and usernames are the same as before.
Other posts mention power supply problems and if you google this it seems a common problem with Lacie drives. All my errors started with the power pack even though the drive was turning on (intermittent issues) then the drive stopped turning on and the power pack light began flashing and it had a ticking noise. I replaced the power pack and it powered on like a dream but with the errors noted above.

It happens to me also, with latest update 126.96.36.199 from the beginning. I follow the procedure described above:
1. disabled media server
2. clear the log (from status page)
3. reboot (software)
now the web interface works and the disk sign 25GB used as right but there is no sign of old Shares folder. I can create new shares but I would like to recover old ones!!

I had the same problem with my Lacie ethernet mini disk 250 GB; the answer posted in Lacie's trouble ticket was to replace the power supply unit: just ridiculous because the device is switching on without problems. Problem is the windows shares are unavailable wereas the http shares still work perfectly. Now my question to gogogo123 is after your solution did you recover all your data or only the device full functionality ? My fear with firmware update is to lose existing data forever.

The best way in my mind to recover the data is to remove the hard drive from the enclosure and hook it up to your computer. Then if you can't get your computer to recognize the disk download a data recovery program like VirtualLab Data Recovery 5.5.15

I had the same problem with my Lacie disk (Giga ethernet and USB). I open a trouble ticket by Lacie and they tell me to go to a shop to bring back the disk. But like you, I have all my data on it. So I finaly find this solution :
1) desable the media server (under media)
2) clear the log
3) download and install the last firmware update (v1.1.1)
4) reboot (hardware)
5) and that's all !
