Question about ViewSonic VX924 19" LCD Monitor

1 Answer

Computer monitor I leave my computer on all the time and recently my monitor will not stay on. The power light is green (not orange for standby) but the screen is black. I can turn the monitor power on and off and it will come on for a brief second and then go black again. If I do this numerous times, it will eventually stay on. If I restart my computer it will sometimes stay on but not every time.

Re: computer monitor

This is a generic symptom that could happen to any LCD monitor.
The following is a generic answer applicable to most.

Two possible causes are bad capacitors or a bad light inside the LCD panel.

Open the unit and check to see if any of the capacitors in the power supply or other boards look domed or vented on the top.

Replace any capacitors accordingly. Use the same value capacitors. Most often, 1000uF 16V or 25V, 470uF at 16 or 25V, 220uF at 16V or 25V.

If this doesn’t solve the problem, try checking the surface-mount transistors on the inverter board that run the lights. Some times these transistors go bad. Check the area for any cracked or overheated ceramic or mylar capacitors.
Also, you may have a bad light inside the panel. This is tough to test without a spare light to use for troubleshooting.

You can take the panel apart and inspect the lamps but it is very tedious. It's tough enough to get them apart and back together again never mind keeping the layers clean. You have to try not to get any dust between the layers or you will see it in the picture.

There are usually two light fixtures each of which holds two lamps. One fixture is at the top and one at the bottom. Remove them one at a time and inspect the lamps to see if any are broken or very dark on the ends. If one looks out of place, it could be bad.

You'll have to find replacement lights on the net. It's not easy to replace them, but if you've gone this far, good luck. You should be able to get generic instructions off of the site that sells the lamps.

Please can you help us. when we turn the computer on the monitor light stays blue with the screen remaining black, when we turn the tower off the light stays blue when it usually has the orange standby...

There is probably a conflicting setting in your power management options. My recommendation is that you check the monitor setting in Windows and see how you have it set up. In Windows it is under CONTROL PANEL>POWER OPTIONS. There are a few differences between WINDOWS 7 and XP from here on out, but in general, do not select a scheme and do not select any hibernate, standby, or sleep modes. If you stick with a simple power saving option, like "TURN OFF MONITOR: After 15 mins." you should not have any further problems.

Many of the Windows "green schemes" will not work right with different combinations of BIOS, Hard drive, motherboard, and monitor. It is best to avoid them, unless you are very patient and willing to go the trial and error route. Good Luck!

LCD Monitor will power in and when connects to modem the power button is green then turns orange, what is the problem?

When the monitor button turns to yellow that means the monitor is on standby mode. Try rebooting the the computer after you have connected it to your modem. If the light goes to yellow again check that the computer is on and that all the cables are connected properly. HP Computer monitors are a little confusing, Sometimes depressing the power button again while it is yellow will turn it on and should so green.

Monitor is only on standby mode and will only go to green when the cable is removed from the computer

Now that is just weird. The green light indicated it's getting a signal while the orange (standby) light indicates lack of signal.
Try a second monitor so see if it is working. If it is, the first monitor is bad and must either be repaired or replaced.

Monitor stopped working...checked all connections...light won't stay on green. bought a new monitor to replace it and that monitor says "no signal". is this a problem with the dell computer and not the...

Your monitor is going into power saving mode. When it receives no video signal from the computer, it will stay powered for a few seconds before giving up and presuming the PC is off hence why it stays green for a while, then goes orange.

The problem is with your PC not the monitor(s)

Either the power supply is going bad (power light will be orange or off when it goes dark) or the screen itself has the problem (inverter?). If the power button stays green but the screen goes dark, that'll be the problem.

Monitor lives its own life ;) Turnes off and on in random moments

It sounds like there's a problem in the power supply or inverter section and it's just teetering on the edge of failure. The disruption of the signal is apparently just enough to kick it over the cliff until it's reset. Sooner or later, it'll need some help, like connections, capacitors, output transistors, capacitors, transformers. Those are the most common failures in these. I think you'll see it get worse
