Magnavox mwc24t5b My tv/dvd combo stopped working. It will not power up at all. It is as if it is not plugged into the wall. I tried switching outlets. It was manufactured in July 06. Any ideas?

I have the same problem. One day I tried to turn it on and it does not turn on. I bought it from Walmart. It was manufatured on June 06. I still have it in my basement.

The set frequently turned off on it's own and would come back on when we turned it back on. It started taking longer to come back on and now won't come on at all.

Same Problem here. Mine seems to work just fine til I switch to DVD, then after about 20 seconds it shuts itself off. I'm beginning to think that this Brand/Model should have been avoided.

Same problem here too. It just shut itself off today and will not turn back on. Tried changing outlets and unplugging the digital converter box, still nothing:-( Not exactly sure what to do; any suggestions? Thanks.

    jplandry,

I too have this same issue with this TV. Following your solution I removed IC1601, but the set did NOT come on. I can hear one of the other components 'squealing' but cannot determine which one it is. I did not remove D1618, and though I am fairly electronically knowledgable, I am not smart enough to track down the problem. My wife is itching for the Wii's TV to return to operation, any help would be, well, helpful !!!

    Thanks,
    Jay

The power supply is shutting down for one reason or another. This unit has 4 shutdown alarms feeding the main processor. It doesn't take much to trip it and believe me, it's a ***** to find it if it is a subtle condition. The VCR could be shutting it down as well if it is not reset exactly right.

This is what I did with the one unit I worked on; It would shut down after 5 seconds. The picture was good when it breifly came on -- but it shut down anyway.

IC1601 is the shutdown opto isolator that will shut off the supply. I removed it and the set came on. After a few minutes one of the power supply diodes started smoking so I unplugged it. The diode, D1618 was bad so I replaced it and the TV worked. But, I could not put IC1601 back in without it still shutting down. I spent hours searching and couldn't find anything. Since it was my son's TV (which he found at the dump) it was OK by me. BUT, if you remove this IC, (it is a four pin located near the yellow transformer) the set will come on no matter what. Just remember, if there is a problem, it will show up quickly. Maybe a new troubleshooting method? Ohms law troubleshooting? No, unfortunately not. Just be careful and try to find the problem.

If you google this model number, you will find a free schematic that --someone-- uploaded to a free schematic website.

I have a magnavox dvd/vcr combo mwc24t5b without a remote control. Is there a way I can get to the menu without it? And if so how?

You should be able to navigate with the buttons on the front of the unit. If it does not have buttons then you can get a universal remote, program it for your player and use that.

A universal remote should solve your problem. You should be able to find one on ebay. You may even be able to find one for your particular TV on ebay as well.

How can I stop a dvd player from reading non-stop with no disc in player---player is not on lock but refuses to open.

Power off, then disconnect from the wall plug. This resets the dvd. after five ninutes, reconnect the power and start the combo. Should have 'load' on the display, then open the tray of the dvd. When you close the tray, it will try to 'read' a dvd again.

Magnavox tv/dvd/vcr combo model mwc24t5b i put a tape in the vcr hit play and the tv shuts off. everything else work fine on the tv.

Usually when that happened for me, it meant that one of my small children had also put a foreign object in the slot where the VHS tape goes. Any type of obstruction will cause the VCR to jam and force the television to shut off.

I've found the center LED in the VHS player faulty with those symptoms. Change it you'll be fine. Larry

Magnavox combo vcr dvd

What you're describing is common when the center LED has failed / gone out. If you're really good at taking a unit like this apart and putting it back together - and not too bad with a solder stick you could attempt this one yourself... It is a pretty intensive repair but not difficult for a good shop just time consuming. The part isn't too expensive either, just an infared LED... In fact, we've run a bit short on stock once in awhile and bought one of the off the shelf versions from Radio Shack which worked just fine. Good Luck Bill
