My kettle got too close to the burner on my stove and the shutoff switch melted slightly- still works but won't shut off. Fear the only answer is to replace the kettle...

If the water is not at a specific level, my kettle will not shut off. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. There is nothing else wrong with it.

The kettle uses pressure of the stream to detect that the water is boiling. Check that the filter (fine mesh attached to the front of the flip-top lid) is intact. Ours had perished, and as a result, the kettle never built up enough pressure to switch off.

To find a replacement, google 'cjk lid'; try

Much simpler solution: if the filter is not installed, is not installed correctly, or is ripped, the kettle will fail to shut off. also, this model has a lid that must be set down very tight; any leakage around the lid will allow steam to escape, and will cancel the auto shut-off.

the filters on these kettles are a very weak spot in the engineering of the product.

Charger not shutting off

Some chargers contain a computer chip that automatically shuts off the unit when a battery is fully charged. Other models continue to charge as long as the unit is on. Review the instructions for your particular charger to ascertain whether you'll have to manually turn off your 3-in-1 charger.

On the dial there is off, low, high and auto. What does the auto do? If I select auto is there a timer on it that shuts the pot down after a time? Is fo what is the time.

There is no timer -- with the dial set to auto, a thermostat opens and closes turning the heating element(s) on and off to keep the pot at a fairly constant temperature. The high setting can continually boil the contents, and can burn the food if not stirred. The low setting is for keeping contents warm.

I'd use "auto", if the pot is not going to be monitored.

I have a 95 Gran AM GT with 3.1 auto. The motor will run until it gets overheated and boils over, but the fan will not start.I have totally flushed the system, pulled and inspected the water pump, changed...

Fan operates when coolant temp reaches 226 deg.F and shuts off at 219eg.F
fan is controlled by the PCM infuts from Eng. coolent temp. sensor & Intake air temp. sensor
the yellow wire is the 5V reference and the black wire the is the PCM ground sensor
make sure your not using teflon tape on the threads of the temp sensor.
it sounds like the PCM wont turn it on. check the harness for continuity between temp. sensor and PCM harness
clear connecter - pin 17 black, pin 31 yellow

I have a 2004 jeep grand cherokee. when the car runs for a short time 5-10 min. the coolant fan turns on and does not shut down until the car is shut off. plenty of antifreeze. what is keeping the fan from...

Sounds like you may either have a thermostat that is not fully opening or a radiator that is partially obstructed (externally or internally). If I'm correct, what may be happening is that when the engine reaches operating temperature, it is continuing to get hotter but at the point you are at, the fans are able to compensate by remaining on.
Only other possibility is that the temp sender is bad and sending incorrect info to the computer, causing it to turn the fan on.
The concentration of antifreeze in a system does not change the operating temp. What it does is prevent the coolant from boiling at a temperature above what plain water would. Your radiator cap also helps with that as a liquid under pressure will boil at a higher temp. Proper concentration is 50/50. Normal operating temp is about 210 degrees(f). (+ ) (- ) 5 degrees)
So, I'd test the coolant sensor and replace the thermostat. Hopefully the radiator won't need to come out but you may need to have it checked if neither other options work.

Kettle does not automatically shut off even when water is at above minimum level and boiling

I think that standards require an auto-shutoff on electric pots to keep the component from softening down. You could override the shutoff by either taping over the switch or utilizing an elastic band. You can check deep details on electric kettle review sites.

Shuts off

Does the unit shut off only before the water boils, or does it shut off and on periodically? I just fixed my friend's WK200 Braun kettle. His would shut off and on, eventually coming to a boil. During normal operation, when you press the switch, it is connected to a rod which at its other end (ie the bottom of the kettle) is able to close the circuit allowing the current to pass through the heating element. In my friend's case, the contact had become weak - I just had to slightly bend the metal pole a little bit to provide a better contact when the switch was depressed. To repair the unit, I only needed a couple of torx screwdrivers and a voltmeter to measure continuity. (note, if you bend the metal pole too much, then the circuit will always be closed even when the switch is OFF - make sure you test for an open circuit when the switch is OFF)

Water in resovoir boils away. Do I need a thermostat?

Listen to the unit after you make a pot of coffee. You will hear it start heating the water and then after the water heats up you will hear the unit shut down. If it is not shutting down and is continuing to run then yes you need a new thermostat.

Boiling grease

When the issue starts have you actually checked the grease temperature? You can also checkto see if there is excessive grease build up on the themostat.Sometimes uncooked food particles can cause a boiling type motion in the fryer while they cook. be sure to do regular filterings of the grease, this will cut down on the suspended particles. If the grease temp is above 350, shut power off and check continuity on the thermostat,it could be sticking closed,in which case it will need to be replaced

If your truck is equipped with a clutch fan, the clutch may not be working properly.Start your truck and let it get to operating temp. and shut it off, the fan should stop rotating when the engine stops. If it continues to rotate, then the clutch is not working properly.
