I have a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300HD from Cablevision. Same issue - in 16:9 setting on the HD channels a little bit of the picture gets cut off on the left and right (TV is a 42LG50)

  • jeffcasey1 Jan 19, 2009

I also have picture cut off at the top/bottom and left/right of the screen. I have the Scientific America Explorer 8300HD box from Cablevision and a Samsung 52LN650 with the 120 Hz auto motion technology. I have tried fiddling with Picture Size button but that doesn't help. Does anyone have a solution?

I may have a solution. I had the same problem and depending what you may have as your cable provider (Ex: DirecTv, Comcast) if your controller is programmed for the Tv then there should be a button that may say format, adjust, or ratio. Pressing may give u different resolution options such as 1080 stretch. My HDTV was set on 480 crop and thats why it seemed cutoff. 1080 is usually the standard resolution they should be set with. If it doesn't work with your cable box settings, it may be your tv settings. It depends on what box your using.

Push the "Ratio" button on your remote and see if that helps. I am assuming you are connected to either a cable or satellite box. If pushing ratio doesn't work, it may be a setting in the box. Post what kind of box your using and I will see if I can help.

thank you!!  I had the same problem and thru the satellite remote I was able to reset the aspect to 4x3 #2 that fixed it. You led me to think that it was the size of the picture going into the tv not the tv itself.   We watched the super bowl with out the score and time clock!!!    Now all fixed!  Thanks

On some comcast boxes it will sometimes switch its screen ratios randomly. To fix this you need to press the cable button on your remote then turn the cable box off, while holding down the menu button turn the power back on, now select the screen ratio menu item from the service menu that should be on your tv screen and press ok. Now change the screen ratio to the wrong setting and press ok. Now change the screen ratio back to the correct ratio abd again press ok, now cycle the power off an.d on again, this should reset the ratio on most comcast boxes,

The DVI input on this set is meant for picture only.. ex. to display computer picture.
if you want audio with your picture. you must connect to either inputs YCBCr or YPbPr which both of those inputs has audio inputs.

I want to connect my cable box to my newly bought toshiba plasma

Is your cable box HD? It would be best for your tv. You can hook up a couple of ways depending on your receiver and tv in/out capabilities. You will always get best picture if you go directly from your cable box out to tv in. You should have capabilty to go HDMI out and perhaps Component out on your cable box. If you can't get hd receiver from cable company. Anyway, if you use HDMI, hook to HDMI out on receiver to HDMI in on tv. HDMI provides audio and video. You can also go componenet(red, blue, green) out from recevier to in on tv. I personally feel component gives you better picture but , doesn't carry audio. For that you need to get audio using either digital optical or, composite cables. You may have to set your HD on receiver through cable boxes menu. The last option is using composite cables(last choice, poorest picture and sound) yellow(video) and red, white(audio)

LC-26DA5U 26 in. HDTV-Ready LCD Television: i connect a hdmi cable 2 my hd cable box - the pic...

The cable box needs to be set to send different signals when using hd tv and standard tv. Usually a good setting would be 720p in hd and 480p in standard. The tv is working fine it is the cable box sending the signal. If you have another hdmi source such as a dvd player you may hook that up to show the tv is working just fine.

Is the satellite receiver HD or standard?
If it is standard you should hook up the box to the tv via RCA cables (Yellow/Red/White) and this will help with the picture quality.

If it is a HD receiver then hook up the box to the tv using a component video cable and this will drastically change the quality of the picture.

Using a coax cable to attach from the box to the tv essentially is connecting an analog signal to the tv and this will produce a lower quality picture...

The S-video cable carries picture only. You need to also hook up RCA audio cables from the camcorder to the TV

Hd hook up for rca 52"dlp

If you have Direct TV HD the best way is to use a HDMI to DVI cable. If you only have the component (red/green/blue)connectors on the Direct TV Box that would be the best way. You will not have audio using the DVI cable, so you will have to run Red/White cable to the Audio Input.

How to get a high definition Picture??

Hi, first of all you need a high definition source. I'm not sure if your cable box is HD but lets take it as an example. The component leads which you are using isn't 'true' HD video quality, what you need is a hdmi cable from your source to your TV.

Your cable box maybe HD with a HDMI output, if it is then you need the lead to come out of the cable box into your tv's HDMI input using a HDMI lead. Then you switch your TV's source to the HDMI input and it then should be producing a HD quality picture, but to truly get the full HD experience you may want to subscripe to a HD channel or purchase a blueray player becasue most cable TV channels are upscaled to HD and the definition is not as good as on a blue ray disc or a true HD channel.

So in conclusion the cable and input you are using is not designed for HD input. I believe your TV is HD, check for HDMI inputs or DVI inputs.

Hope this explains your problem

The picture has shrunk - maybe 720P vs 480P?

make sure your hd cable connection from your cable box is going to an hd connection to your tv.[via hdmi, dvi,or componant.] if you have a different hook up such as rca out or coax out, these are not hd connections and you are probably streching out the picture.look at the rear of the tv & cable box and see how the connections are.the hd hook up to the hd input should make the picture the right size only if it's set on the hd input channel.hook up the dvd player to a aux/line in or video/source input and try changing the picture size. you may have to play around with it till you get it the way you want.
hope this helps.

There is a switch on the 360 hd cables themselves it is a slider to go from TV to HD it is right where the cable plugs into the 360...switch towards 360 is tv and away is HD. Hope this is what you needed.
