Connect the WAN port to your modem(box from your internet provider). Turn off the Modem for 20 minutes. This will make it forget the last device connected to it and accept the new device. If it does not work, you need to tell your Internet provider that you connected a new router and the modem doesn't give it an IP address.
That is exactly what a router is for. If your modem doesn't have multiple ethernet connections, then go out and buy a generic router (like linksys or belkin or cicso or netgear, etc.) and hook the WAN port of the router to the modem's ethernet connection, and then hook the computers into the multiple ethernet connections on the router.
1.You should have a modem you received from your ISP (Internet Service Provider). 2.Plug the Ethernet Cord Into the Internet port of your router. 3.If you have a desktop computer plug in the ethernet cord into one of 4 ports of the router. 4.Open you wireless connections and connect to the internet.
Try: Clarify - the desktop is connected with an ether net cable? Is working? Install router software on desktop to manage router. Trying to connect desktop wirelessly? Wireless card installed? Radio activated? Network detected?
If you connect the desktop to the modem it works that means modem is working.
Now connect the modem to the router and computer to the router. Open the set up page of the router. and change the settings of the router according to your internet service provider.
a router shouldnt need to dial for a connection, go to open your internet browser and go to tools, then internet options, then click connections tab and select never dial a connection so as to stop internet explorer looking for a modem connection
Ah, you can no longer use the modem or the Blitzz screen to connect to your Internet connection. You'll need to patch another Ethernet cord from the router to your Ethernet port on your computer and it should automatically connect.
If you still get prompted to dial, open up Internet Explorer and ignore any prompts to dial and then click Tools, then Internet Options, then click the Connections tab at the top, then click the selection to Never Dial a Connection. Confirm your choice by clicking OK and then try browsing the Internet like usual.
Desktop is wired. I can still connect wirelessly through my laptop.
