Re: wont scan

The image car is stuck on the travel rail. Remove lid, power and connection to computer. Turn scanner over and remove 4 screws holding body together. Turn right side up and push in on lower right front of body to relase keeper clip from top. There are 4 keepers at each corner of body. After getting right front loose, do right rear and then left rear. Left front is last [should slip off]. Unfold top toward front so as to not loosen button wires. Clean steel 1/4" round rail near rear of scanner and move scanner car by turning gears at left rear of scanner. Apply small amount of vaseline to rail. You can try to operate before reassembling but be carefull. Reassemble. And away you go. Happy scanning.

My scanner's light seems to have gone out; when it scans, there's no light travelling up the flatbed. But also, new problem; it just wont scan, the light wont move at all. Any ideas please?

Try resetting the scanner:
It might be possible to rest the scanner if you power it down, unplug it from both power as well as the computer. Give it a few moments, then power it back up and see how it does. If it's looking like it's reset, go ahead and reattach it to the computer, let it detect/install, then give scanning something a go.
Usually the light going out and never coming back on is a bad sign. Might be worth a try to reinstall the scanner drivers/software on the computer, just to rule out software corruption before declaring the old boy deceased.
Best of luck, William

Scanner will not scan, says it is in locked position.

The locking tab protects the scanner's scan head by holding it securely in position. Lock the scanner when transporting it from one location to another, but always remember to unlock it before scanning. The scanner will not scan when locked

Looking the bottom, upside-down, with the back/bottom (power cord side) down. The lock is in the upper right corner. It is a slide style tab. Move up to unlock the bed.
Look on the users installation guide page 7 for illustration.

When I am scanning negatives, and try to save my scan to a file on my computer, it sounds like something is stuck and when the picture is finally saved, the middle of it is blank or shows rainbow-like wavy...

There is usually a locking lever on the bottom of the scanner to lock the mechanism during shipping or transport. Make sure that lever is fully in the unlocked position!

Scanned picture quality

what type of paper is the picture on, is it a actual photograph, is it a magazine print or is it printed on matte paper? All of these can effect the print outcome as the light reflects off each differently or absorbs into it when scanned. Also check the setting in the pronter setup and set it to match scanned settings.

My scanner will not scan negatives

Most scanners aren't designed to scan negatives. (Of course the manufactures would never want to tell you their product CANT do something).

Flatbed scanners typically have a light on one side.

To scan negatives properly, you need to have a scanner that has a backlight, or a second light in the bed's lid that you fold down.

Canon USA, Inc. make a few flatbed scanners that have backlights. They range from $60 to $180, depending on the features and resolution you want to pay for.

Please see the below link. This is a more expensive one, but is shown just so you get the idea. In the pictures, note specifically in the picture that shows the lid open, how the white backing on the lid can be removed from a clip at the top. Underneath, is the backlight and clips designed to hold negatives in with the included frames.

Visioneer 8920

I have had this very problem with 2 of these scanners (8920) and finally figured out what happens is that the cheap chinese power supply loses power over time and then finally gives out. Before it fully gives out it doesn't have enough power to scan properly but will still turn the scanner on. Symptoms range from terrible scans with noise to the dreaded "scanner is locked" error. I got a new power supply from radioshack - 12 VDC at 1.5A (1500 MA) and it works like brand new! Make sure the power supply can deliver the full 1.5 A of the original! This is very important.

Scanner 3770 hardware problem

Hi, it is possible that your scanner has a transport locking lever or knob underneath which might have been keeping the carriage locked in place. Try checking and release if there is one. Hope this works for you. Pls post again how things turn up. Good luck and kind regards.

Scanner not working

Hi, there are a couple of things you may want to try. Some of these if not done right might make you loose access to your scanner, proceed at your own risk. 1) really lock your scanner before booting to windows, then proceed to scan, then it will tell you that is locked, follow directions, remove, unlock, plug back, proceed to scan; or 2)use a different USB port (front and back/side); or 3) download and use (preferably new) drivers @ or use the CD installer that came with the product. Uninstall your scanner: right click My Computer, Properties, Hardware, Device Manager, look for your scanner, right click, uninstall. or Start, control panel, add/remove programs, remove your scanner programs. You have to reinstall them all again (better with new drivers). Hope this work for you and good luck.
