NO. The comlpete dash has to come out. You may want to replace the a/c evaporator, there also prone to leak and it woill be cheaper to do both at the same time. Recalls are only for safety reasons, Dodge doesnt care about heater cores, (or any other components) as long as they last through the warranty period.

If there is indeed a recall, then the dealer should take care of the issue for you. That would be my recommendation, as replacing a heater core is not a fun job. Good Luck! I hope you find this to be very helpful!

I'm sorry. I missread your post...In a hurry I guess, you were asking if there was a recall, I thought you were stating that there was one, and the other expert is partly correct, in most instances recalls do have to do with safety, however, if it is determined that there is a defective design in a functional part, then yes, occaisionally there will be a non-safety related recall. However, I have researched and do not find your heater call to have been recalled. In order to change out, you will likely have to remove the dash to get to it. Good Luck!

Heater leaking in cab

Leaking heater core or lines most likely the core cracked or was punctured. Replace your heater core since during removal you can inspect the lines for leaks

Change a heater core in 2002 Ram, big job?

With reasonable skills it is a job you can tackle, but requires a lot of patience. There may be several steps you don't see the need for, but follow them - it is better than finding out why a few steps later. Give yourself plenty of time.

I have a 2002 dodge ram 1500 pickup w. hwat issues

is this a problem w/ the interior vents? maybe stuck venting in outside air rather than from the heater box? did the heat only stop working after the radiator/hose install? if so, then you probably have a big air pocket stuck in the heater core.

I bypassed the heater core in my 2002 dodge ram 1500 and I just noticed coolant is still leaking in my passenger cab. What could be causing this?

Probably still some left in the heater core. Should quit after a while, or try blowing it out. I would even flush it with water first. Better to have water leaking than antifreeze. At least your dog can lick it and not die!
