Re: No light

Most likely the lamp ballast in the power supply is blown, this was common in the P4 units. These units are more than 4 years old. They were OEM from InFocus. You can check on for cross reference info to the P4 (for parts info). Your unit may need repair, however it may cost more than the unit is worth (est. $150-$300) I can recommend PROJECTOR DOCTOR in San Diego CA, or ALLTECH ELECTRONICS in New Jersey for repair of this item. PJ DOC might have parts as they were a InFocus repair center as well.

I have an optima hd180 that will not power up. The projector was indicating a bad bulb, so I replaced that with a new one. Now it still will not power up and the fan does not come on either.

Problem w/ OEM bulb, it causes a lot of issues from my experience. Your ballast might have gone bad, hopefully it's just that. Check the voltage output of the ballast, make sure you're getting the proper amount.

Your new bulb is not lighting.
Check the connections are correct.
Have you also tried putting back old bulb to see if it works.

Purchased 2006. Ceiling mounted. Just stared overheating after approx 10 minutes after last bulb replacement in March of 2010. Floor fan pointed at projector helps. Tried cleaning. Running right side...

Yes, if bulb was low price and was installed in old lamp casing then it is bulb that is not good and creating too much heat that exhaust fan can't throw out to make projector cool enough so temp sensor activates and send over heat signal to system control chip thus projector shuts down.
Please install original lamp that comes with casing to solve this issue.
If lamp was original then check exhaust fan that might be running slowly due to stiffness in bearing so temp sensor finds over temp in projector.
Hope these info will help you.

New lamp, no power!

if there are no leds lit, i'm surprised that it powers up. but if there is no light when the fans are running, it may be the ballast that needs replacing.

Fan noise loud, bulb burst. Replaced with new bulb. Noise even louder! Unit shuts itself off.

the bulb may have burst from overheating from a fan not working to cool it down. and it can be replaced. it does take, however, a while to replace it because you have to take half of it apart. but make sure it's the fan first. take the lamp door off and remove the lamp. use something small and thin to push in the switch that the lamp door usually activates. turn the projector on and see if the lamp fan and the colorwheel (the multicolor glass disk) are spinning. if the fan spins, the noise may be from the colorwheel motor going bad. the fan can be purchased through an infocus authorized service center. check the website for the closest one. but the colorwheel for the x1 cannot be purchased seperately from the optical engine, and that costs a fortune. but here is the part number for the 80mm fan- 526-0152-00.

SP4805 bulb does not fire up; led stays green; fan turned on

I had the same problem after purchasing a new bulb. My husband pulled it out after it would not fire up and the new bulb plug in conecter (white with 4 holes with two wires) was different. Take your old bulb and compair the two conecters and see if they match, then check if the wires are in the same slots as in first and last. Mine on the new one were in the first and second to last slot. So we took the wire out of the second to last and put it in the last slot and installed it and it fixed the problem. We also had to unplug and replug it in and do a master reset by pressing the Power and Channel buttons and the same time for 15sec. Hope this helps.

Projector overheating and turns off after 20 mins

I have a HP VP6111 projector that works fine on a table top but overheats ( overheating ) when turned upside down and hung from my ceiling. My solution...I went to Circuit City and bought two 80mm computer fans. I also purchased a 12V power supply from Radio Shack. I put one fan on front of my projector and the other on the back of the projector and wired them into the 12V power supply. I mounted both fans with velcro. The front fan pushes air and the rear fan pulls air. The projector now runs fine without shutting off. The fans are 12V and push 34 cubic feet per minute of air. I am very happy with this solution.
