Temporary internet files could harm your pc if the files contents virus, this could also slow your pc because if you have files that was infected with virus specifically the application files. Those files were automatically load into the services and in the processes and also in the start up without your consent. If all these files will run in the system this will cause " a low virtual memory" because the memory speicified was use by these useless and annoying application.

If you encounter these problem i would suggest that scan you computer with a potent antivirus, you should empty the temporary files and the recycled bin.

If you are sure that the computer is virus free and still encountering the "low virtual memory" you can increase your virtual memory by doing these:

1 right click my computer and then properties
2. click the advance tab
3. in the performance., click setting
4. then " advance tab"
5. in the virtual memory click change
6. check custom setting
7. in the initial size double the size of your memory
7. maximum double the initial size you setted.

If these will not solve the problem i would recommend you to format and reinstall your system.

Hope this help

Choppy internet connection

If you are a frequent viewer of Internet-based video, then you know how frustrating it can be when streaming video doesn't play correctly. When a video is described as being "choppy," it can mean several things, including out-of-sync audio, stuttering frame rate and/or inconsistent stream speeds. However, although this term can mean several things, there are several ways to address all of these issues at once and help make your video viewing experience a bit smoother. Empty your Internet browser's cache and temporary files. Click the "Tools" menu and then select "Clear Private Data Now" (in Firefox) or "Delete Browser history" (in Internet Explorer). When you browse the Internet, your browser collects information from the websites you visit and carries this information as temporary and cache files. Too many of these files can bog down your computer, so delete them. Disable hardware acceleration. Open your computer's "Control Panel" and then click "Display." Select the "Settings" tab, click on "Advanced" and then click "Troubleshoot." Drag the hardware acceleration slider all the way to the left. This procedure can help reduce the strain on your processor, which can lead to choppy videos. Add virtual memory. If you are using Windows Vista or 7, you can add extra RAM to your computer by plugging a USB mass storage device into the computer. The operating system will automatically convert the unused space into RAM. Run your disk defragmenting utility. Click "Start" and then select "Programs." Click "System Tools" and then "Disk Defragmenter." This utility will eliminate the fragmenting of files, which could be taxing your processor. My computer is getting really slow now. what can i do?

Actually sir there are a lot of reason why a computer becomes slow..First because of viruses, secondly your computer is very populated with files and applications and your hardware devices cannot accommodate it. But since you're connecting to the internet i know you have a good antivirus..perhaps i recommend you to try this 1. examine your files and application and choose the files you frequently used and not frequently used. 2. delete unwanted files and applications that you already didn't use so that it will free hard disk space and virtual memory of your computer. 3 go to recycle bin and empty it. freeing hard disk space and virtual memory can help your computer perform much faster...Reply to this post if your problem are not solved..Tnx for using fixya..

My laptop is so slow, it takes for ever to load. I have Macfee on it. Could this be the problem, too much scanning?

Yes, and no. Generally if your system is running too slow, try clearing out your temporary files - in internet explorer, that's under tools > internet options > browser settings > delete > (click on temporary internet files)
Run disk cleanup and defrag your hard drive. (under my computer, right click on C:, properties, disk cleanup, then tools tab, defragment. Go into installed programs, remove programs you don't use- uninstall them. If cleaning up the space on your drive doesn't help, you can lower scanning sensitivity in McAfee to be a little less aggressive. Hardware wise, if you are running low on memory, you can consult your system manufacturer or documentation for your motherboard to see about purchasing and adding more memory to your system- which has the added benefit of increasing all-around performance

My netbook runs slow and freezes

There are many reasons for slowness and freezing. Computer specs (ram, processor speed, connection speed)) could be not enough for today's internet.

Internet cache, temporary internet files, temporary files should be cleared.

Try defragmenting the hard drive.

And try downloading a program like CCleaner from Piriform.

  • Hi, what you need to do is "Add" more Memory to the "Virtual Memory, the memory is used to "Cache" for file indexing, Paging of files... it handles for all running Processes, Networking, and Services. 1. Go to and open the Control Panel, select the Performance and Tools, category, next open the "Adjust Visual Effects." 2. In the "Performance Options, click on the Advanced button, there will be Virtual memory area, that show how much memory is "allocated" towards "paging file..." (RAM) on the Harddisk; click on the "Change button, in the window (view) the "Recommended amount, in (MB)." 3. If the Memory is less< than the recommended Total for paging, change it. Clear the # number in the Intial size box, type the recommended amount or > Higher, example: (Recommended = 4219) type ( 4219 or 4519 or higher), next click on the "Set button, click OK." You may need to restart the computer. "If the solution helped, rating it is appreciated, thanks"

My pc is running slow

Hello

There could be several reasons for this:

[Software type]
1. There are too many trash files (temporary files left after some program crashes or uninstallation; temporary internet files and small amount of free memory after all)
2. Your computer Registry should be cleaned and optimized
3. Your hard disks should be defragmented
4. Some components have bad or corrupted drivers
5. Viruses, trojans and other malware may slow down your PC performance
6. Too many programs running at Startup or in your SysTray
7. Inacurate size of Virtual Memory
My advice would be to use this " Faster Computer Now" guide at:
http://tinyurl.com/yzvb3eg

[Hardware type]
1. If your computer wasn't fast from begining, consider upgrading RAM and/or Processor (see your computer mainboard's documentations for available options)
2. Hardware mullfunction

Of course there are more reasons, but I just mentioned mostly common

Add memory to HP/Compaq nc6000?

Yes you should increase the memory. XP runs suitably well at 512mb. At 1GIB it blazes.

The memory meter is pegged because it is having to use the Harddrive as ram (Swapfile) which is 1000x slower than RAM.

XP with nothing on it, straight from the factory will run with 256, but after 3-6 months of use, and adding applications it will get progressively slower.
