Oreck belts keep coming off

I have an oreck XL upright and the belts keep coming off. I have cleaned it througly inside & made sure the brushroller was cleaned well. I did notice on the side of the brushroller where the belt goes on to is a little worn could this be the problem? Please help I cant keep going through belts every 5 minutes ( and I mean that literally) it's becoming very costly. Do you think a new roller brush would help?

Re: Oreck belts keep coming off

For orecks it is usually the fan housing has loosened everything. your belt will slip. if your vac is under warranty, then fixing should be free. if not, it is about $60

Re: Oreck belts keep coming off

If the pulley on the brush roll is worn, then I would replace the brushroll. Look at the ends where the brush roll sits in to make sure the casing hasn't over heated and not holding the brush in place. Also make sure the motor is shifting and causing the belt to come off. Another is if you are catching a rug or towel, that also will cause the belt to come off. I am assuming you using a new belt and not a worn one. After only a short time, belts stretch and need to be replaced.

Roller on upright vacuum is not spinning so vacuum is not picking up dirt

Any time that a vacuum's roller brush stops spinning, this means that your belt has either stretched so much that it's fallen off of the motor, or that your belt has broken.

Here's a very helpful video on how you can replace the belt on your Oreck. This will give you step by step instructions on the belt change.

If you need to purchase a new belt, here's a direct link to a 3 pk. of belts that are used on your Oreck XL upright on our website:

My oreck XL7 smells when it's on. Smells as if it's the motor. Had the Oreck for 4 years but hardly used it?

The smell is probably from the belt. When they are worn and stretched they can start to smell. You can get replacement belts for your model here:

My Oreck XL has quit sucking. The brush turns but

Same problem here with XL9100. Bag would not expand implying no suction. Motor ran and brushes turned. Easy disassembly using common tools found that a plastic bag had been sucked up and caused a blockage prior to the impeller. Cleaned up, reassembled, and everything worked fine after that.

My Oreck Vacuum cleaner keeps burning up belts. I

I am having the same trouble. I bought the vacuum new in October 2007 when my wife and I purchased a newly constructed home. Since it is only two of us, she only has to vacuum once a month. I have taken it in three different times and get the same story. It needed a new belt. Mine has white smoke coming out of it and smells like burning rubber. I contacted Oreck and got no results. They refused to let me discuss this with Dave Oreck, stating that he nevers talks with customers! Gary Neeble

the brush roller is siezing up on you.try to take the brush roller out and clean it real good .pull the ends off and clean them to things get caught up and wrapped around them and keep them from turning.before you put the new belt on clean the motor shaft .usually when a belt breaks it leaves burnt rubber on the shaft .if you don't clean it the new belt won't last long.please leave feedback.i hope i was some help to you...pete

How to I replace both belt and brush correctly.

I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Oreck XL 9100C Ultra Bagged Upright Vacuum. The best way to install the belt is to put the belt on the brushroll 1st and then install the brushroll, the brushroll has marking on the top and the bottom of the bearings stating NEW or USED / OLD and install them identical on both sides and then use a belt puller to stretch it onto the motor pulley. The best place to get instructions on how to install the belt and brushroll is the owner’s manual and an owner’s manual is from the Oreck Factory of which I will supply for you listed below or you can download the owner’s manual from the Oreck Website. . I would check with your local Oreck dealer or vacuum dealer in your area to see what is going on. This is most unusual for this to happen. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions. Replace belt on my oreck xl

Either have to take the bottom plate off, or there is a small door with one screw to remove to replace the belt. Then it goes around the motor shaft and then over the pulley on the brush roll.
