Blue Convergence problems

The tv was given to me and it is horizontally pinched from the top and bottom and the blue convergence will not move when I try and adjust it.  I have researched the problem and it sounds like I need to replace a part called the IC STK392-040.  If this is so please let me know if there is anything else I need to check.  I also have no clue on how to fix a tv, but I am very good at following directions and have fixed electronics before and know how things work.  If you could email me a description on how to repair it or what I should do that would be great.  Thank you

Yes taht is exactly waht you need. You will need two of them plus some heat sink compound. It is a straight forward repair. Just unsolder the old ones and solder in the new ones then adjust your convergence when your done. I am enclosinga link where you can order the parts online for 10.99 each. Hers the link

Convergence lines are SLANTED. Red line is above

Your TV most likely a convergence failure. ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses. Its a fairly easy DIY job or you can call in a pro. If you want to do the repair yourself check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, thermal paste, email/phone support, etc.

Blue Convergence problems

Yes thats what you need. Just go to radio shack get a de soldering Iron (the kind with the rubberbulb works fine) as wel as a fine pointed low wattage Iron. Also pick up a tube of heat sink compound while your there. Then lable your wires on the tv that you remove. Desolder both STK392-040 chips and solder in the new ones. Just ve careful not to bridge any of the pins with solder chck them with a magnifying glass. Dont forget to coat the back side of the new heat sinks with heat sink compound. You will need to adjust the convergence when youre finished. Just go slow it takes about an hour. I would also vheck the resistors right next to the ICs at times on or two of them get burnt when the ICs go out. Heres a link to where you can get the replacement ICs.

Blue out of whack around sides

I have the convergence problem with the red. After reading your site I replaced the 2 ICs and the problem is worse. Before the only problem was I could not adjust the red horizontal. Now I have no control over the vertical or horizontal and the overall picture is very red and it bows at the top and bottom very bad. A friend said I might have the ribbon connector in wrong or the convergence (silver box?) box maybe bad. Any ideas? Thanks,Dave.
