Neptune FAV6800aww Will not go into spin

My Neptune top loader keeps trying to go into spin cycle but the load is always out of balance. I have tried several different load sizes and it does not seem to make a difference.Once it tries to go into spin the tub is so out of balance it stops and tries to reposition the load. This continues until it finally faults out for dc. The washer is level. I have ran all of the diagnostics and everything is working like it should with an empty tub. I could really use some help on this one.

I have the exact same problem. Please someone help.

This is Honeydoman with a follow up. I am fairly mechanical inclined so I decided to take the clutch assembly apart. Since this is what everyone was saying the problem was. I spent 5 hours on the internet to find the answer.

What I found after removing the clutch and disassembling it was a broken coil spring. The spring had broken right at the tip that slides into the housing of the clutch. I am not certain but I believe this may be where the clutch fails on this model. I took the spring out and dug out the broken tip. Once I had them out I took a blow torch and heated the tip of the spring and shaped it back into the same shape of the piece I dug out of the clutch housing . Then I installed the spring back into the clutch housing and reassembled the clutch. So far this has fixed the problem and all is well again. I want to caution anyone who is going to try and tackle this. This is not a job for anyone who is not familiar with working on machinary and is not mechanically inclined. The entire tub and motor assembly must come out of the washer. Once you have it out and turned upside down removing the clutch is a breeze. www.easyapplianceparts.com has exploded views of the washer that helped me out.

The other route is pay out the @!& for the part and have a qualified service technician install it. The part will run between $130.00 and $190.00 just depends on who has it in stock.

    Honeydoman,

I'm having this same problem with my machine. I'm curious as to your solution - how did the clutch affect the unbalance issue?

I just did a repair on my FAV6800AAW by lubricating the needle bearings in the clutch pulley hub, the tub displacement sensor checked OK per the service manual check. I was getting dc/uc errors in the spin cycle, washer was purchased in 7/05. I have basic mechanical skills and used a socket wrench to remove clutch pulley hub, just follow the service manual removal steps to remove clutch pulley hub. Pull the plastic cover off the clutch pulley hub and inspect the spring, clean/lube needle bearings and the clutch hub coupler that drives spinner shaft. I used WD40 I may need to re-lube down the road with a good light grease. It took a few tries for me to get the clutch pulley hub to stay on after re-install and power up, getting the clutch pulley seated properly is the trick. I did not remove the washer tub for this fix, I just leaned the washer back to get a better reach angle, it is a tight work area. I did not want to junk 3.5 yr old $1k machine with out trying a fix. If you want to work on this model get the service manual, I found it online and I believe you can order it in PDF format from Maytag. Good luck!
I just went thru my 10th load of a mix of light, medium and heavy loads and all work fine no unbalance errors (DC/UC). Doesn’t fix the tangle problem :) Prior to this fix I could only run the washer with no clothes in it to complete a cycle with no dc/uc error codes.

These machines are absolute junk. Mine throws the EC code constantly on any load less than absolutely full. It also eats buttons off of everything constantly. So much for the "dependability people." Their ads are a joke and so are the machines. I used to have a very simple Sears Kenmore machine and it never gave me an ounce of trouble. Never again Maytag, costly piece of junk.

I have the same problem right now. It doesn't matter if it's a small load or big one. We built a special platform for it so I know it's completely level.

don't visit this site very often and I don't want to troubleshoot FAV6800A or FAV9800A issues here.

I have two DIY sites that I try to provide owners support as a knowledgeable owner.

You problem is related to a Clutch Issue. Google these keywords ""[FIXED] Maytag neptune FAV6800aww wont spin""

It's a long post it was difficult for me to pull accurate info from the owner for the issue. Fo him the Upper One-Way bearing on his machine was seized. All of these machines are ready after 6 years + of operation are ready for a Outer Tub rebuild. It's a few hundred dollars to do if you have to replace the Clutch Pulley as part of the process.

But one step at a time read the thread [FIXED] Maytag neptune FAV6800aww wont spin and see if this is a DIY project for you. It

If you machine is a FAV6800A or FAV9800A don't worry about the last two letters of the model number.

Google this; Neptune TL Washer FAV6800AWW

This is a DIY Appliance repair forum and you can get the Service Manual and repair support at that site..

In the Sticky: Neptune TL Washer FAV6800AWW 5 post down you will find a link to the Service Manual. You absolutely need the Service Manual to DIY issues with the machine. It's not the best SM but will get you started. I also have repair post in that sticky to help with the most common issues that I have helped owners with. Tub rotates CW during agitation, out of balance, hits side of metal cabinet, but no error code

Hello srcoray,

Did you replace the clutch, just trying to get a feel for your hands on experience with the machine? If you did the work did your machine use the upper roller clutch bearing along with the clutch pulley mounted roller clutch bearing?

The FAV6800AW uses a reversing motor and motor controller that powers the motor and clutch pulley to rotate CW in Wash/Agitate cycle and CCW in Spin Cycle.

In Wash/Agitate cycle the roller clutch bearing should rotate freely CW allowing the agitator shaft to drive the transmission in wash cycle driving the tumblers to rotate only not the wash basket. In spin cycle the roller clutch bearing will lock up (one-way roller clutch bearing) driving the spinner shaft to rotate the wash basket and transmission CCW. Unless my thinking is wrong it sounds like the one way roller clutch bearing is frozen or dragging and not rotating freely in wash cycle rotating the wash basket CW. I’m an owner like you and will try to help.

Just a few other questions;

If you have a load of wet clothes in the wash basket and you select Spin Only cycle will the spin cycle complete with out dc/UC errors?

With the lid raised can you rotate the wash basket CW? It should not; it should only rotate CCW and do that with very little resistance.

If you are sure that the load sensor is not the problem then you really need to get a service person to try to correct. The side rotators should not be moving.
