2001 Ford Expedition - starts, won't shift out of park, windows n

If you Expedition is anything like my '99 Ranger, you have to have your foot on the brake to get it into "PARK". If you are doing that, then you have a transmission shift linkage adjustment problem that can happen if you have had your transmission removed or replaced, in which case I would have the shop that did the work adjust that linkage...no charge.

Get codes for transmission at dealer or OBS module at car quest or similar

The
shifter needs to be inspected. Its quite possible that The
shifter assembly is got misaligned, it has to be open and realign.







There
are many other possibilities. But if it was working right up till now and
suddenly this shifting problem occurred then its shifter
assembly alignment issue.

Try the switch on the brake pedal bracket. When this switch gets bumped out of position by the drivers feet it causes difficulties. Check your under-dash fuse panel. Seen that many are bumped and window control relays are half hanging out of fuse panel.

these have a safety system so the shifter won`t go into any gear unless the brake is pushed(indicating someone sitting in the drivers seat),if the brake lights aren`t working this indicates that the fuse that operates the shift lock solenoid and brake lights is not working and needs replacing.check the fuses and replace the fuse and things will probably return to normal.

brake-sahift interlock solenoid not working. check fuse first. when key is on and brake is pressed, it either activates or deactivates the solenoid so you can shift out of park. safety thing.
chrck owner manual for a mechanical overide process. maybe there is one.

Have the transmission checked out but I'm leaning toward shifter problems, manual shift valve possible transmission range sensor.

Shift Interlock System
The shift interlock system prevents the shifting from PARK unless the brake pedal (2455) is depressed. The shift interlock system consists of a shift lock actuator (3Z719) mounted at the base of the steering column tube (3514). If the ignition switch (11572) is in the RUN position, the shift lock actuator is continually on unless the brake pedal is depressed.

Thier is also the shift lock actuator ! plus wiring . You have a short to ground on that circuit . Do you know how to Find a short ? videos on youtube .
