Compaq presario 1200 bios problem

Model, 12XL126
problem: bios setting for "chipset" does not come up F10 works fine
..
this computer was "checked" by airport security, turned on and somthing was changed, the PCMCIA wireless card worked 10 min before .. now no lights come on or anything linksys software says card not present, card works in antother computer. i seem to recall on boot it had both a F1 and F10 option. I beleive they disabled the PCMCIA slot some how. there is nothing thats shows up now is the standard bios, advanced only has options for paralell port, did all the resets, pulled the battery ..next pull the cmos battery ?

did all of that, the card works fine in another computer.
what i am saying is that the F1 (advanced bios setup) no longer
show up. preveiously on boot screen (red compaq logo) there where
two options on the lower left corner F1 (advanced bios setup)
and the normal F10 bios setup. the F1 option no longer shows

the F1 bios screen had the OEM setup stuff to turn on the PC slot and USB, com interupts ect (chipset features).
the USB,PCMCIA and COM ports are now disabled

I seem to recall it had an option to "disable" the showing of the F1 options. I beleive that is what the TSA people did... turned of the WiFi card in the bios and then saved the confiig using the option that disabled the F1 bios select from showing during boot
I had hoped there was some "easy" way of resetting the flag that
tells the BIOS not to show the F1 option .. .guess it's time to pull the CMOS battery

How to change setting in bios to boot from cd drive"?"

you usually dont have to change the boot order to boot from a cd. the bios should check the cd rom before booting from the hdd. However, if that isnt the case, you can always change the boot order.

go to the bios settings while u turn your laptop on. (It should be "esc" for HP. a message will be displayed at the bottom of the screen indicating the key. if not, try esc, f10, f11, f12. either one of them should work).

go to the boot order settings (May have a different name- boot settings/ boot priority settings/ advance boot options etc.).

When i switch on my compaq presario V2000 laptop it beeps three times and then freezes giving me the option to press f1 or f10 but when i press f1 or f10 it still doesn't work and is still frozen

Hi....
Actually beep sound indicates hardware error or BIOS error.
Don't press F10 while starting.
Let your laptop to start wait for 10min....
If it will not starts..........
Press F1(BIOS Settings for some pc F2 is Bois Setting)

If it will load BIOS.......... then your BIOS is OK

Then you need to change hard disk...

If not you need to change BIOS hardware(IF you i will tell you the way restore BIOS but it's very difficult task.It needs a trained person.)

Thank you have a nice day............

Laptop hp nx6320 keyboard f2 key is only working. f1 and f10 key is not responding so that I can't save memory upgradation option nor open the setup.

Have you tried "Delete" to enter the "Bios Settings"? If not this must be the shortcut for your laptop, since most compaqs' Bios settings are accessed with "del" key. Actually for Hp compaq laptops, F1, F2, F10 and Delete keys are the shortcuts. (varies with series/models).
If this doesn't help, try Fn+F1, Fn+F2, Fn+F10 etc..

Good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

CMOS?

There are different keys that can get you into CMOS. On a compaq try the F2 or the F10. Usually, I try F2, F10, DEL, or F1.

It sounds like the hdd has failed. When you try to boot can you hear the hdd attempting to spin up? Best solution if everything else checked out would be to replace the hdd. Hope this helps & please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.

Add more memory to my computer

Not able to access it in what way? Is there a password for the BIOS or something? Normally on most (all?) Compaq models, F10 is the key to use to access the BIOS.
