Vista to Vista wireless, Can't share printer

So your third laptop which runs Vista cannot connect to the Printer and Dell machine?
There are some reasons for that. First check whether you have access to the Dell machine (whether you can reach it) Open a command prompt and do a ping to verify the connectivity. Example. ping (The ip address should be the one of your dell machine. You can find it by running ipconfig in a command prompt on Dell machine.)
1. If you cannot reach it you have to check the network utility (wifi or any other method you use). Make sure that it function properly. 2. ping the router using router's ip address. If ping works you can reach up to their. So from there you can check the Lynksys management console to know why it blocks the machine entering the wlan. May be a addressing issue or authentication issue. If you cannot reach it however it might have problems with the connection as well. Make sure that you allow connections to the wlan on Toshiba Vista laptop if you use a antivirus solution with a firewall or any other firewall.
If you can reach the machine (or even if you cannot reach) you must check whether you have access to the workgroup (you have to join if you are not in the workgroup which you use) and you must enable file and print sharing. If you run the windows firewall that would block you in as well. Its better if you can check whether the print spooling service runs. Start -> Run Type in services.msc Hit enter. Check and enable the service.
If you can reach the Dell using a ping: Check whether the dell machine can access the laptop. Use my network places. It will ask you for the credentials. Provide them. If any error occurred try detecting the network. Add the machine properly to the workgroup. Enable access to the machines via file and print sharing in windows firewall. (go to the firewall go to Exceptions tab and select the File and Print sharing)
Check this Microsoft resource as well.

Have you had a look on the firewall website for a suitable firewall system that compliments windows 7?
I had to download a new one myself when I went from Windows XP to Windows Vista.

Sometimes changing systems means you should also change your firewall, then you'll have the most up-to-date software going. Plus it won't slow your computer down like it doesn't sometimes.
Hope I helped Dr Reed

Vista hook up with dell wireless 2350??

You really don't need the setup disc to setup a router of any kind. First you need to plug the computer into the router via ethernet cable. Jack into one of the numbered ports on the back of the router. Once Vista receives an IP address, click start then type cmd and press enter (this opens a command prompt). Type ipconfig and note your default gateway. This is the IP address you will need to type in to Internet Explorer. After sucessfuly doing that it's probably going to ask you for some login credentials. Check your user manual for the user name and password. After logging in, set your router up as needed.

Disconnection problems

I see. You can try changing the wireless settings of the router. You can do that by accessing the web based utility of the router. Here are the instructions:

1. Click the Start button, and then click Run.
2. Type the following text in the Open box: http://my.router
3. If this is the first time configuring your Dell Wireless 2350 Broadband Router, or if the user name and password have not been changed from the default settings, type admin in the User Name field and admin in the Password field.
4. Click the OK button. The Configuration screen appears.
5. Under the Basic settings, under Wireless Settings change the channel from Auto to 1, 6, or 11.

If that does not work, you can try updating the firmware of the router. You can download the firmware from this site:

Here are the instructions on how to upgrade:

1. Reaccess the configuration page of the router using a wired computer.
2. Click on System Tools, find Firmware Upgrade.
3. Click Browse and search for the firmware you downloaded from the site I gave you earlier. Select it and then start the upgrade. Let the firmware finish its upgrade.

Cannot connect to internet through router

there might be a wireless setting that is not yet set properly on your son's laptop. If there is a wireless security enabled on your dell router, you have to enter that so that the laptop will connect. Also, if you are using Windows xp or vista, you can try to remove the preferred networks first before reconnecting.

If the same problem occurs, you can try changing the channel on your router and make sure that the SSID set is personalized. If this still does not help, you can try bringing your son's laptop to a hotspot to check if it can connect. If it doesn't then the problem is on the wireless adapter of the laptop, you can try to update the drivers for that one.

If you encounter any problems, just click on the ask me button and I'll help you with your concern as soon as I can.

Wireless device disappeared with Windows Vista installation

Unfortunately, you have mentioned the router, which is no longer supported on the Dell site, but not the network card you are trying to use, please advise so as we can try for a driver. I assume you have tried installing the XP driver, as sometimes this may or may not work.
