I smelled plastic burning in the room with the fan. Traced the smell to the light fixtures under the fan. The lights were on and the fan was off. It was so hot, I couldn't touch the light fixture beneath the fan. The ceiling fan came with four, forty watt ceiling fan bulbs. The light fixture doesn't get nearly as hot with the fan on.

Of course when the fan is in use, air is pushed down the light fixtures so it cools the heat emitted by the bulbs. so the lights should be turned on together with the fan.

No outlet box in ceiling, it has a hook is there a special bracket, my home was built in the 1940s and the ceiling fan in the kitchen was hung with a hookin the ceiling, there is no electrical outlet in...

They sell brackets at home stores, but I have nailed a 2x4 between ceiling joists & mounted an electrical box at proper height. If you aren't good with electrical, get an electrican to run power for you.
The hanger must be SOLID & the wiring GOOD.

Chain stuck

Change the switch. Sometimes gently yanking on the chain releases the jam. More often than not, the switch needs to be replaced which requires dis-assembling the fan.
