Question about Dell W1700 17 in. HD-Ready LCD Television

Dell W1700 no video no audio

My TV died today - the power light is on but no one's home. The screen goes black after 1 second of flashing the LCD test screen when it's in PC mode. Absolutely no reponse in the TV mode. The speakers crack when I switch from PC to TV but they've always done that. I've reset the TV by holding down the remote's power button for 20 seconds. Also unplugged everthing and replugged one at a time and still nothing. Any suggestions? Dell won't touch it - out of warranty, and I've found some shops who may be able to fix it (Dell's recommendations). I don't know if it's an inverter problem since I also have no audio. Thanks.

Today I went to repair this for a friend. I noticed on the board one the far left had 2 220uf 25v caps. One was swollen to I replaced both of them. I now see the faint red blue green white box floating around but it does not iluminate the entire screen. I didnt notice anything else on the other boards gone. It sucks cause these things take so many screws lol. Any input thanks

When I turn on my tv the screem keep black but I lisent the audio.

the issue here is with the back light on this LCD TV.

What you can do to check this in most cases is hold a flash light to the screen to check to see if there is a image, if so then your back light is the problem and another one would need to be ordered for your tv.

1. Check back light

worse case scenario is the inverter that controls the back light as well that might not be firing.

Thanks for using I hope this information is Very helpful to you.

Dell w3000 has green power on no video just audio only

Firstly i would suggest you to perform Self-Test Feature Check (STFC)
Your LCD TV when used as a computer display through DVI and/or VGA connection provides a self-test feature that allows you to check whether your LCD TV is functioning properly. If your LCD TV and computer are properly connected but the LCD TV screen remains dark, run the LCD TV self-test by performing the following steps:
  1. Turn off both your computer and the LCD TV.
  2. Unplug the video cable from the back of the computer. To ensure proper Self-Test operation, remove both Digital(white connector) and the Analog(blue connector) cables from the back of computer.
  3. Turn on the LCD TV.
  4. The floating 'Dell - self-test Feature Check' dialog box should appear on-screen (against a black background) if the LCD TV cannot sense a video signal and is working correctly. While in self-test mode, the power LED remains green and the self-test pattern will scroll through the screen continually
This box also appears during normal system operation if the video cable becomes disconnected or damaged.
Turn off your LCD TV and reconnect the video cable; then turn on both your computer and the LCD TV.If your LCD TV screen remains blank after you use the previous procedure, check your video controller and computer system; your LCD TV is functioning properly.

OSD Warning Messages
A warning message may appear on the screen indicating that the LCD TV is out of sync range.
See Specifications for the Horizontal and Vertical frequency ranges addressable by this LCD TV. Recommended mode is 1280x 768 @ 60Hz.

Today I noticed that when turning on computer, after 1-2 mins the screen goe black and I cant see anything. I noticed in the past month that occasionaly I get lightening flashes in the background. this...

To determine if the LCD screen is faulty ot the video card, connect an external monitor to the laptop's video port. Power up the external monitor first and the boot up the laptop. The video image should automatically switch to the external monitor. If you don't get flashes on the monitor then the video card is OK and the fault lies with the LCD screen. Flashes coud be caused by a faulty inverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. A fault is usually easier to diagnose when it is not intermitten.

Dell W1700 LCD TV static audio and b/w picture

Hi bsut96,
Check the cable between the monitor and the box for damage. Try a new cable. It may be a problem with the input board but it sounds like a cable problem. Let me know what you find and please rate this solution. Lone99star

Dell W1700 HDTV ready problem

I had the exact same problem. Another thread on this site recommended replacing the inverter from

I ordered the replacement inverter from their San Francisco office this past Friday. I received in less than 72 hours later and I live in Tampa. AND THIS IS THE HOLIDAYS.

Anyway, they have a tutorial installation instruction on their website for the Dell W1700. I have never worked on a tv, but with their tutorial it took me about an 1.5 hours to disconnect, disassemble, repair, and test the tv. Everything now works again... and for only $90 including shipping.
