Oven temperature My oven takes forever to heat up. It's set for 400, but after 25 minutes, is only up to 125. What's the problem and can I fix it? Is it worth fixing? It's about 10 years old. Amana ARG7800 Thanks !!!

Same problem, but we also periodically get a good wiff of natural gas odor. We occasionally will hear a "waoompfff" when the gas ignites.

Same problem, same approximate age of stove. Oven does not light as it should. If you leave it on for 30 minutes, it might light. Also, we sometimes smell gas. The "glow plug" that should light the gas is glowing bright. I think the gas is not coming into the burner properly. What to do?

I am having the same problems with the ARG7800 stove. The temperature never go beyond 125, and sometimes there's a strong gas smell. I see that a few people posted the same problems, but I am wonder did anyone has a fix for this issue.

Gas oven works fine sometimes, then at other times, it is just warm. I see the light at the base of the oven but it is just luke warm - and there is a slight smell of gas.

Replace the bake igniter in the bottom of the oven. It corrodes over time and as the resistance increases it finally reaches a point where the voltage is two low to open the gas valve. It's a ten minute job and the part cost $45-65.

I have the same problem with mine. It just started a few days ago. I would turn the oven on, and it would take forever to heat up. The gas flame has been making a lot of noise when lighting and when going out. I removed the bottom plate in the oven and have found that the gas is not coming on. It would after a while, and occasionally. But not when called for. Either it needs a new valve, or the electronics are messed up. I will have to look into it. may have to call someone to fix it. If you find the solution please let me know.

Replace the door seals, they are the thin rubber strips around the front of the oven when the door is open. They are simple to change as they just clip on.

Oven takes forever to preheat

The way the oven works is like so:
1) User sets the desired temperature
2) Power is sent to the ignitor
3) The ignitor is then energized, drawing 3.2 amps of current
4) When the 3.2 amps is drawn, the gas safety valve is allowed to open and gas flows into the burner assembly in the oven.
5) This gas is then ignited, causing the oven to heat.
6) As the oven heats up, the oven sensor, which is the metal rod located at the top on the rear oven wall, converts the heat into an electrical signal, relaying this information to the main control which in turns displaying the temperature.
(In models with a dial thermostat, there won't be a sensor, though a metal wire with a bulbous end will be present, which is actually connected to the thermostat.)

The number one problem for these ovens is the ignitor. This one is your ignitor according to your model number When it is weak it is intermittent. Sometimes you can get the oven to work if you give it a swift kick. This video explains how it works:
The next likely suspect is your oven sensor. That is the link to your oven sensror according to the model number you posted. Here is a video which shows how to check it:

Hotpoint gas oven

This is an indication of low gas pressure to the oven. This condition may improve when other gas equipment is turned off and worsen when demands increase such as during cold periods where heating plants are running. Contact your local gas company to check pressures at the burners and adjust the incoming pressure to the oven accordingly.

It sounds as if you might have a problem with the gas valve for the oven. This is something that I would not reccomend that you try and fix yourself.
