Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

Washer-Kenmore front load belt drive model #417.40042990 (Won't final spin on any cycle.)

O.k. guys here we go again...had to take a break and rest my brain.

So, posted the other day about our Kenmore front load washer that doesn't seem to want to gear up for that final spin speed.
Checked:
1. Pump and drain lines for blockage. Found nothing blocking and the impellers were fine.
2. Checked drain line to ensure that it wasn't to far into the stand pipe.
3.Checked the shocks for oil/grease or broken mounst or bolts.

After all of these great suggestions...we still have yet to conquer the problem. so any other ideas would be great.

Thanks,

-Icem

Hey tech17, Here we go again hu?

I would happy to tell you which company made this Kenmore if you could tell me how or where to find it. But if this helps it is a stackable waher dryer combo and the controls are at the front.

When I pulled the water pump out to check for blockage I did take off the rubber boot and clamp.

  • Icem Jan 22, 2008

Got to the pump from the front. It's right up front in the lower right hand corner if your facing the front.

  • Icem Jan 22, 2008

No worries...We have a regular knob that turns clockwise to select the cycle and yes we have another seperate knob that allows you to select normal or fast "Final Spin Speed".

Great suggestion...have been back there already with the same thought when I first eperienced the problem last week. I unhooked both clips and inpsected the bd for burns. (By the way the control bd I found is in the right rear if your looking at the machine from the front. Unless I'm messing with the wrong bd. I think theres only one. So I accesed it from the back.)

So..while I was waiting...just for the hell of it I ran the washer empty on the normal cycle final spin, and it did run at high speed in the final spin fase but the timer knob would not advance. It stayed in the same position for about 3 full high speed spins. Weird? What do you think...timer knob or still tacho generator. Or is there a chance it could be the spin speed control switch?

ok got it yes i dont know how to quit just hang with me ok does your have a knob or electronic controls and does it have a spin speed switch

  • robert samples Jan 22, 2008

look pull the bottom panel and look to the left hand side of the washer you will see an electronic board there that's your speed control bd check for loose wires or bad connections there just plug and unplug the connectors if that doesn't get it then the other test have to be done under the control panel also look for any damage like burned resistors etc the stuff i told you earlier was the simple common stuff now you have to go deeper if you have a meter we can check the motor and tacho generator with out having to get under the control panel

THE MACHINE RUNS VERY WELL QUIET UNTIL THE FINAL SPIN CYCLE THEN FROM THE BACK OF THE MACHINE THERE IS A SQUEAL THAT GETS LOADER AS THE SPEED PICKS UP

This may well be the drum drive belt in the back of the washing machine. This belt transfers drive from the motor to the drum for both wash cycles and spinning. If the belt is slipping slightly on the pulley then a squeal may well be heard on the spin cycle and will change in pitch as the speed of the drum increases. At lower speeds (wash cycles) the belt probably won't slip. I don't personally know of this model but there is usually a tension adjustment nut/bolt near the motor to tighten the belt and stop it slipping.

Spinning cycle is not spinning.

It could be belt or transmission. I would tip back the washer to check. Some times the belts are under the whole washer. depending on your model, it may be inside the housing. It's only a few screws to take off the front panel. They are pretty self explanitory. Let me know if this helps.
