Will not power up

My Playstation will not power up, switch on back turned on but no red light on front of unit. Unit powered down when I tried to start a new game of Call To Duty. Sounds like a Power Supply issue.

Hi the problem sounds like the unit has overheated this is common problem with ps3 i see alot of these problems all the time sometimes you can be lucky and just replace the power relay transformer inside the ps3 but most the time its the whole board that needs replacing.
The best thing to do is check your warranty and get it repaired this way as getting it repaired would cost as much as a new ps3 also its not a repair you can do yourself as you might need the software reinstalling as after they overheat it usually corrupts the data on it.
How old is the ps3 the only other option you have got is buy a damaged one off an auction site but buy one that lights up but dont come on then you might be able to make one out of the two.
I have been buying ps3 that dont work for next to nothing but i had to buy 8 or 9 before i could get one to work by swapping parts.
Let me know what you want to do check your warranty as this is common fault they might even repair it if warranty has run out it has been known if its common fault

PlayStation 3 dont star the light in front turn red and flash

You have the infamous YLOD, aka. Yellow Light of Death. This is the number 1 cause of pS3's dying. It is an overheating issue linked to your CPU and GPU (the processor chips) You will need to find a local PS3 repair shop who can repair this. Do not try to attempt repairs seen on the internet yourself as some would suggest. You could make things much worse and render the unit totally unresponsive. The repair process takes about 3 hours.

IT CAN BE FIXED*

IS THERE A DISC STUCK INSIDE?

If you have a unit that is not backwards compatible, any non 60g or 80g then you can retrieve your disc.

Power off the unit using the toggle switch on the back. Hold down the 'eject' button and turn the toggle switch back from off to on. This will run a fan test and eject your disc. Remember, this will only work on the 20, 40g models. Not the backwards compatible units with the 4 usb port holes and the memory card slots.

My PS3 just shutdown while playing last night. The front light is red and turning on and off. When I try to restart the light turns into yellow and it continues to flash the red light

When entering a game I hear sound but no picture. Plugged in correctly and TV set to HDM11.

If you are sure that you have your TV on the correct input, you can try resetting the PS3's video settings using the following procedure:

  1. Before changing cables, make sure the PlayStation 3 is turned off using the main power switch on the back of the PlayStation 3 (the 0 side is pressed down).

  2. Unplug the power cord of the PlayStation 3 and television (or display) from the wall socket.

  3. Make sure the HDMI cable is connected to the [HDMI OUT] port on the back of the PlayStation 3 system.

  4. Connect the other end of the HDMI cable into the [HDMI Input] port of the TV or display monitor.

  5. Plug the PlayStation 3 and television (or display) back in to the wall socket.

  6. Turn the main power switch on the back of the PlayStation 3 back on (the line on the power button is now pressed).

  7. While the PlayStation 3 system is in standby mode (red light on the front of the system), hold down the touch-sensitive On/Off button on the front of the system until the system goes into standby mode again . (So the light cycle would go from: red light to --> green light --> then back to red light) This will ensure that you have held down the On/Off button long enough to reset the Video Output Settings.

  8. Turn ON the PlayStation 3 and once the system finishes powering up, the Video Output Settings will automatically reset to the standard resolution (or detect the current display output settings of your TV/monitor).
If that does not resolve your issue, try the other steps here:

My grandsons PS3 turns on but it just shows a blank screen, we are using av cables. I found how to get into the diagnostic mode and this part works but it did not fix anything. The light turns green but...

The ps3 automatically detects an HDMI cable not av cables. You are going to have to reset the video settings back to factory. This can be done by turning the unit completely off(Hold the power button until you see a red light. Then turn the power switch off in the back. If you do not turn it off in this order, and just turn the switch off in the back it can corrupt your hard drive!). Once the unit is all the way off, hold you finger down on the power button in the front. While continuing to hold the power button in the front, turn the switch on in the back. After several seconds, you should hear a couple beeps. This confirms the video settings have been reset. Don't get discouraged if it does not work on the first try. It sometimes takes several attempts. If you have any further questions feel free to contact www.wiredextreme.com.

My so moved his ps 3 from the HDTV (HDMI) cable

Nothing wrong, you just need to reset the video back to default.

While the PS3 is off (red led), hold down the power button until you hear the SECOND beep, quickly release.

Video should be up now :)

Try resetting the video output. Follow the steps below:

  1. Before changing cables, make sure the PLAYSTATION 3 is turned off using the main power switch on the back of the PLAYSTATION 3 (the 0 side is pressed down).

  2. Unplug the power cord of the PLAYSTATION 3 and television (or display) from the wall socket.

  3. Make sure the AVI cable is connected to the [AVI OUT] port on the back of the PLAYSTATION 3 system.

  4. Connect the other end of the AVI cable into the [AVI Input] port of the TV or display monitor.

Thank you for using fixya!

Playstation3 wont turn on red flashing light then a double beep then turn off

Unplug the power cable from the back of the PS3, wait around 30 minutes...this will allow the unit to cool down. Plug the cable back in and try to boot the unit again. If you still have a red light, call PlayStation. If you're still under warranty, they'll send you a new unit at no cost to you. The problem may be the Hard Disk. This happened to me and PlayStation was very easy to deal with.

Shutting down on 60mg system

try holding the power button on the right
side of the console as you turn the back power switch on.Keep on holding the power button and see if there is a double beep.If this doesn't work, and if you want to try this? Open the HDD cover on the left side of the unit(front facing you).after removing the cover, remove the HDD unit and reconnect. It might be a loose HDD connection. This should only take you 2 mins to do and it won't void your warranty
