Closed caption on, but not working

I can't get the closed capitoning to come on. I went to Wegagate, then closed captioning and picked the digital basic option and it says ON, but no captioning. TV people told me it might be Charter cable. No CC button on tv or cable remote. Charter said no, they don't have anything to do with it, it's the tv. HELP. My husband is hard of hearing and we would really love to use our tv!!

Re: closed caption on, but not working

Do you have a cable box? is it a motarola box? is it HD box?
if the answer is yes to all of the above then leave the TV on and shut the power off on the cable box on the front of the box. then hit menu on the front of the box, an intrenal menu will come up. using the curser buttons (up/down) scroll to where it says "close caption : disable" use the curser buttons (left/ right) to highlight the disable the use the up/down curser to the "Enable" position now hit menu again then power to turn it back on.
you see close caption is not encoded thru Y, Pb, Pr cables nor is it thru HDMI and no set has decoding for closed caption thru this connection. so it has to be done thru the box.

How do you turn on closed caption on apex digital flat screen tv?

not all sets have the capability, not all programmes have captions.

This tell you how to turn OFF, but just choose ON.

and I found this

Best Answer: There are two types of closed captions; analog and digital. It's possible that you turned one off and not the other. Some sets will only allow you to access the menus for the type of signal you are watching so make sure you are tuned to the offending channel when you access the menus.

Also, you might want to check other devices that the signal may go through on it's way to the TV like cable boxes and DVD players. Sometimes those have closed caption decoders, too.

I haven't been able to put closed captioning on tv. I don't understand how and what code to use to get the closed captioning to work.

Enable Caption Using the Original Remote
  1. Press the [CCD] button to change the CCD mode.
  2. Using this button will set the Closed Caption mode when viewing a DTV or TV channel.
Enable Caption Using the TV Menu
  1. Open the Menu screen, select the third icon, in the middle, this is the Setup Menu.
  2. In the Setup Menu, choose the Caption option.
  3. Caption: There are three items in it - Analog Closed Caption, Digital Closed Caption and Digital Caption Style
  • Analog Closed Caption: CC1, CC2, CC3, CC4, TEXT1,TEXT2, TEXT3, TEXT4.
  • Digital Closed Caption: Service1, Service2, Service3, Service4, Service5, Service6.
  • Digital Caption Style: There are two Caption Styles. One is the automatic function set as the broadcaster, while the other is the custom style where you can adjust the font size, color, opacity, background color etc., accordingly.

Hi les, my name is John. Welcome to FixYa. You may not have the original remote. You will have to do it manually, from the menu on the TV. Some remotes are different than others, but give that a try and let me know. Use the + and the - and just follow the set-up. Thanks for choosing FixYa......John
