Question about Panasonic Toughbook 17 PC Notebook

1 Answer

Liquid spash on Samsung LCD monitor - now won't power up.

I cleaned it up but a small amount dripped down under the frame. It acted funny after a few minutes - display controls popped up on screen then went away, would not turn off. This am I got up and it was dead. No blinking power lamp. I took this thing apart and cleaned up a little inside. I don't see how anything got even close to a board or anything.

I'm looking for any fix. Blown fuse? I don't see a known fuse type, nothing apparently burned thru...

It can ruin your computer. Act quickly if this happens, because it only takes seconds for liquids to destroy the hard drive of a laptop computer.
Step One
Shut down the computer immediately.
Step Two
Wipe up any liquid. Tilt the computer to the side to drain any liquids.
Step Three
Remove any removable parts from the laptop, including the power cord, printer and mouse cables, the floppy drive, CD drive, modem cards and battery. Do not disassemble the laptop body to remove internal parts.
Step Four
Once the parts are removed, gently lift the computer and turn it to the side and upside down to drain any liquid. Tilt the computer in a variety of directions to verify that there are no pools of liquid lurking, but be careful not to shake it or handle it roughly.
Step Five
Repeat with the floppy drive and other removable parts.
Step Six
Use a hair dryer on a cool setting to dry the laptop and its parts if you can.
Step Seven
Allow the computer and its removable parts to dry for 24 hours before you reassemble it and turn it back on. (If you are under a tight deadline, let the laptop dry for at least an hour before you reassemble it.)
Step Eight
If the computer does not work properly or does not turn on, bring it to a computer repair professional, although the damage might be irreparable. Spills are one of the leading causes of laptop deaths.

LCD or computer screen dirty?

The best way to clean it up is with a microfiber cloth VERY lightly moist with warm water. No soap. No solvents. No alcohol of any type. NO WINDEX. NO 409 or any household cleaner. Be sure that if you're cleaning an LCD screen that you apply VERY little pressure, otherwise you can damage the screen.

For an old-fashion CRT screen (NOT A FLAT SCREEN LCD), you can use the same as above or you can use a small amount of water + rubbing alcohol. Be sure that the liquid doesn't drip INSIDE the monitor.

Why is aSide by side fridge leaking brown liquid from below ice maker?

Thank you for your post, friend!

I understand that you are seeing a brown liquid come from under your dispenser area. I would recommend you having a professional come out to your appliance to check and assure the water lines are connected properly and not developing any moisture problems to form from under your dispenser. I hope this is helpful. -Matt

My Samsung SGH-A797 won't turn on and I'm not sure why.

Look for a liquid contact indicator under the battery usually pink or orange if tripped. Usually looks like a white dot. If it won't come on at all and when plugged into the charger it's highly probable that it got wet at some point. A small amount of water can do a big amount of damage. 11_17_2013_9_56_57_pm.png

How to clean screen

I dont know which type you have but here is how to clean either:

CRTs
Those big chunky CRT monitors have glass screen which are easily cleaned. The important thing to remember is that you don't ever want to spray any liquid directly on the screen. Instead, spray the cloth with water or a mild window cleaning solution then wipe the screen. You can use the same damp cloth to clean the entire monitor case, as well. If you prefer, you can also use moistened paper towels to clean CRT monitors, You will be only cleaning the outside of the monitor case and screen. Never open the monitor casing which contain electric voltage that can cause a shock.

Flat Panel LCDs
LCD monitors are often called flat panel monitors because they are flat and thin. These are the types of screens that are used in most laptop computers, and they are also becoming very popular for desktop computers. LCD screens are softer than CRT glass screens, so they require some extra tender loving care. Keep your fingers and sharp objects away from these screens since they are susceptible to damage and scratches.
Use a soft dry cotton cloth to remove fingerprints and smudges from the screen. If this does not completely remove the dirt and splotches, use a small amount of isopropyl alcohol on the cleaning cloth that has been dampened with water. (A small amount of vinegar can be substituted for the isopropyl alcohol.) Again, spray the liquid on the cloth and never directly onto the screen. Do not use paper towels on an LCD screen as they can scratch the screen. Never use ammonia, ammonia-based cleaners, or strong cleaners which can cause the surface to yellow and become brittle.
It is good to have a special clean cloth that is dedicated to use on the LCD screen. Don't pick up any old rag, as dirt particles in the rag can scratch the surface of the screen. Special LCD cleaning cloths are available and can be an excellent investment.

What do you use to clean monitor screen mine has smudges that will not clean with cloth provided

You can use a warm DAMP cloth with a little soapy water (washing up liquid). YOU MUST NOT DRIP ANY LIQUID so make sure it's well wrung out and don't apply excessive pressure or you will damage the screen.
I hope I have been of help but please do not hesitate to ask if you have any further questions.
I appreciate your vote if you appreciate my reply.

SyncNaster 931B

take a soft cloth (type used for cleaning glasses) and moisten it with a small amount of water on one corner.

gently wipe the wet portion of the cloth across the screen (if you have any weak alcohol based cleaners you can try it. I have used hand sanitizer before on my 931b w/out problems, I wouldn't use any extremely strong liquid cleaners though).

Use the dry part of the cloth to wipe the area dry, then move to another part of the monitor once you are satisfied.
