Camera or battery problem?

I haven't used my Olympus E-510 camera for a few months. I took it out recently, fully charged my two batteries and put first one, then the other in the camera. One shows 'battery empty' message on the LED while the other shows nothing. None of the buttons on the camera work.
Is this a battery or camera problem?

Sounds like a battery problem. When a rechargeable battery is allowed to completely discharge from non-use, it usually will not come back.

Camera not turning on

Remove the battery and charge it again. If you only can make just a few shots with the battery and it stops again, think of buying a new battery. Special when you have not used the camera for a long time, the second and third charge can be better. If not the battery is on its end of life.

Battery life for my camera is miserable - I've had the camera for 2 years and I'm already on my second battery. Is this a function of the make and model or do I have a faulty camera? Thank you

That is not good, by the way is there a possibility that the battery is over charge? because overcharging it will cause some damage on the battery and it will only good for a few months...

Hope that helps........

Even after putting a new fully charged battery camera shows battery empty

The reason you are still getting this error despite the fact that you've placed a new fully charged battery means that the battery is not compatible with the camera. The fact that it states this is because the battery isn't capable of handling the Olympus camera. I would suggest for you to buy a recommended battery pack by Olympus, or a rechargeable battery pack to avoid these errors.

Try charging it for an hour even if it is indicating that it is already full in 10 minutes. If the battery still gets drained after a few shots, then you should change your charger.

Took battery out of working camera 4 months ago. Put charged battery in recently, but camera would not turn on. Reset with button but no change.

Do you mean your Nikon D80 battery haven't bean used for 4 months and you store it with no power? If so you battery maybe has been't damaged. Over discharge is heavy damage for Li-ion batteries. And when you store it with no power and for a so long time... You need to store it at 40% charger and at a cool but no cold place. Cold and hot are the killers of Li-ion batteries

Unfortunately, these "waterproof" cameras don't always work as advertised. If the camera is still under warranty, I'd start there. It may be too late for this, but an old trick to dry out electronics is to put it in a bag of white rice for a few days to absorb moisture. It's a long shot, but I revived a wet cell phone once this way.

dear sir,

the first suspect is your battery, which is running in low battery....kindly recharge the battery for few hours with the original charger, because the charging volt varies from battery to battery of the same brand and using this universal charger is definitely going to harm ur camera very worse, kindly go for the original charger and charge the battery and then put your camera on........

if still the problem is the same ,the problem is usually caused by virus and sometimes it might be software failure also, which causes some of the menu not to function, the only solution is to flash ur cam software from the nearest olympus service centre and it is going to be done free of cost,as your camera is under warranty .......

thank you...take care
