My Sony DCR-TRV730 camera is not being rcognized by my computer. I am using XP Pro with firewire.
The firewire card works with another device.
I tried the camcorder on another XP Pro computer with firewire and it also does not recognize the camcorder.
An Email to Sony resulted in that XP should recognize the camcorder and there are no special drivers needed.

-   I had not used my camcorder for a while but it was recognized and transferred video just fine about 8 months ago. I tried different firewire cables but XP never recognizes it. My model is the TRV840. I guess the firewire port may have died but that seems strange since it has been sitting in the case the whole time.

-   I have the same problem with my camera. I have connected it to my XP Pro desktop computer and also to my laptop with vista business. neither computer sees the camera using the firewire. They connect using USB but that only works for the still camera part of the camera.

-   I had to reformate my hard drive and after doing so I have not been able to get my computer to recognize my DRC-TRV730 Digital 8 Camera. It was working fine before I formated the hard drive and everything else is working on my computer except for this.-   xrtiam

Nvidia GeForce4 MX 420 video adapter
Sony TRV730 video camera

I had intermittent connection with the camera until updating to SP3 on XP. Windows Movie Maker never made it to the preview window when trying to capture data. No video or audio codecs installed outside what comes with XP or media player 11. I have not yet tried a new firewire cable or my camera on a different PC.-   okie_2008

I cannot believe it. Yesterday I could connected handycam to PC via firewire cable and through pop up I could select Adobe Premiere Pro and transfer video to PC. Today PC does not detect the handycam. After rebooting PC, switching handy-cam power switch to different positions still camcorder is not detected. Adobe Premiere Pro says on capture window: Capture Device Offline. In camcoder I can see "DV IN". I bought firewire cable yesterday. Did it fail just after a couple of hours of work? Possible. They manufacture such a **** these days. How to test the firewire? Or how to restore the connection? What am I missing? Your help is highly appreciated. Thank you very much.

Sony DVD-DCR201--cannot download videos at all with Windows XP Pro or Vista. Sony website says no drivers are needed, but it is apparent that we need a driver to recognize this camera, right? Do you know where we can get one?

How can I download videos to my Sony laptop with vista Business 32 from my Sony Digital Handycam? I have a Firewire but I can't see the camera at all from the laptop. I have also tried through the USB and nothing happened.
XP Pro doesn't acknowlege the camera (sony DCR-TRV730) at all. On my home computer the XP installation there sometimes, but rarely recognizes it, but not enough to actually use the connection.
