Bobbin/raceway and timing problem; Necchi 3577 (by 2 users)

posted by Gehn on Jan 21, 2008

I was sewing a blanket and ran out of thread in th bobbin, I removed th bobbin and threaded it and put it back together as I have done a few times before raising th needle as high as possible. It seems to fit in there but when I test it to begin sewinging it backs a rattling sound. The needle then gets caught( but doesnt break) in the mechanism when the it goes down to cathch th thread from th bobbin. It might be th timing, I was told that I could adjust it my self with some patience. On occation th bobin mechanism will pop out before or as th needle gets caught. I reaaly like this machine and it has only been used a few times so its is literally like brand new. From what I gather th machine has to be turned on its side to adjustr that section of the machine. I dont know much about sewing and have done this more or less by trial and error so if I could get some detailed instuction on this matter would be great. I am waiting for my instuction manuel to get here but I dont remember anything like this in th instuction manuel. Kaidengehn@hotmail.com

After alot of patience I finally got this thing running. I tried adjusting th timing and at first I had a hell off a time. The schematics I had were hard to read and very unclear. Eventually I took everything apart and started from scratch. Replaced th needle and thread, got a new bobbin and treaded that, wiped all the oil off as best I could and reoiled with "turbine oil"( its used for engines and does break down and get too messy and last longer), after replacing all that I was finally able to time it. Really I think that I had a variety of problems but the timing was really off. It seems to be running fine now and may be abit better. Thanks to ya'll. (By the way I really recommend turbine oil, I got mine in an A/C wholesaler but you can find it at any home department store, it doesn't break down either which gets black and gritty) In any case the problem is fixed. Thanks Guys!

I'm having the same problem. This is my first sewing machine and it was given to me new as a gift. How exactly do I adjust the timing?

ok.....without the bobbin case in and a fresh needle in, turn the machine to the side and turn the crank wheel counter clockwise, the hook of the machine should bypass the cusp of the needle, thats the part of needle that is by the eye and curves in alittle, if it is not the timing is off, try to adjust this by adjusting the needle bar, this is not a easy easy repair but takes patients, im assuming that, thats where it was thrown off timing
