Belkin N1 Wireless USB Adapter

Hi all,

I am pulling my hair out!

I have a Dell desktop running on windows XP. We have just installed broadband from BT using their BT Home Hub. As my desktop does not have inbuilt wireless capability we bought the Belkin N1 Wireless USB Adapter.

Yesterday we installed the drivers for the adapter and have a Wireless Newtork Connection on the Desktop of 54mbps, however after a few minutes the connection seems to stop working and I have to restart my machine.

Please help.

Many thanks

Emma P

Hi Emma,
Try these first:

change channels to 1-6-or 11. Make sure you change all of your wireless computers.

check is to make sure you are NOT using "IEEE 802.1x authentication for this network."

You can find at setting under "Wireless Network Connection Properties" and then under "Authentication" tab of your network properties.

This particular authentication method is periodically logging you off the network and re-authenticating.

Check the adapter in device manager to make sure that windows is not shutting the adapter down to save power.

Cordless phonesBelkin N1 Wireless USB Adapter - 1.gif and wireless ethernet cards use overlapping frequencies. As a test, you can unplug the AC cords from all the cordless phones in the area and see if it helps.
Please let me know how you make out.
thanks

Can not identify Belkin N1 Wireless USB Adaptor on PC

Hi, A couple of things: 1. Have you tried all the USB ports of your desktop PC (front and back)? 2. What is your desktop PC brand/model or at least the motherboard? and What OS please?; 3. If running Windows in the desktop PC, can you please check in your Device Manager if your USB are 2.0? 4. Are you using a USB hub or directly connected to the PC's USB port? Hope this be of some idea/help. Pls post back with your desktop brand/model/motherboard. Good luck and kind regards.
