Leapfrog leapster won't turn on

Our 3 year old leapster won't turn on. We tried the suggestion of holding down the power button for a few seconds already. We changed the batteries using both rechargable and regular batteries. It shut off while our son was trying to play a new game. Is there a button we are missing to try? Any suggestions?

Us Too......we've had ours for 6 months and today my daughter was trying to play a game and it just turned off. Now, no power! Yep, tried the 3 second power thing. I might just call Leapster and see what they say; can't hurt.

My Son's L-Max Leapster has just died a sudden death. Looking at this website it seem's an inherant fault. We have tried changing batteries and also swopping battery holder with my daughter's, but still nothing. I have e-mailed Leapfrog and I am awaiting a reply. I am definately not going to buy a new one as it seems this could happen again!!!

My son was playing his leapster and in suddenly shut off without cause. It hasn't been dropped or misused. I have taken the back off of it and nothing seems to be out of place. Has there been a recall or anything leapfrog has for this product. We liked the product and what it was doing but are dissapointed that it has broken in less than 5 months.

I bought two Leapsters last Xmas and one of them just won't turn on. My son barely used it the past 4 months, and he is ALWAYS careful with it.

I tried new batteries and even bought an AC adapter....it just won't turn on.

Anyone with a solution??? Leap Frog, please post an answer...as it seems to be a recurring problem.

5 month old leapster.  Stopped responding to stylus, then just will not turn on at all.  Never mishandled in any fashion.  Piece of junk

I have the same problem! We have a leapster and a Leapster L-Max and neither one will work anymore. They have not been dropped or mishandled. I emailed to Leapfrog- hopefully they will have a solution. My kids want to use them but I don't want to have to buy new ones when they already have 2!

Same problem. Worked for a month, now won't turn on. Target won't exchange it since it was bought 2 months before Christmas while on sale and is now out of warranty.

The Leapster turns on and the sign in screen comes up but the touch screen does not work. Recalibrating does not work. Can't get past the sign in screen

How did you try recaibrating? I just fixed my son's Leapster 2 a few minutes ago. I read a couple different recalibration instructions and the one that works for the Leapster 2 is:
1-Hold down the (?) Hint button while turning on the system.
2-Keep holding it down until the Leapster menu shows up
3-Let it go and press the A button
4-Touch each crosshairs x with the pen tip
5-When it goes back to the menu screen, restart the unit

My daughter has a Leapster 2 that is only about 2 months old and the touch screen does not work

Answer
I had the same problem and here is the answer I found at leapfrog.com which fixed my daughter’s disney princess leapster 2’s problem. Good luck!
If your Leapster2 does not respond to the stylus pen, it needs to be calibrated. Calibrating the Leapster2 is easy:
1) Ensure that a cartridge is not inserted
2) Hold down the Hint (?) button while turning the unit on. Continue to hold the Hint button down until the LEAPSTER menu appears.
3) When the LEAPSTER menu screen appears, press the A button
4) Touch each of the crosshairs that appear with the stylus
5) Restart unit

The touch screen does not work on leapster 2

Turn off the Leapster2 and remove cartridge (if there is one).
Push and hold down the hint button (the one with the question mark) while the game is off.
Turn the Leapster on while still holding down the hint button until you see the calibration screen.
Push the "A" button to enter the calibration.
There will be a little plus sign. Touch it with the stylus and continue to touch the plus signs with the stylus until you return to the calibration screen.
Turn the Leapster off and then back on again without a cartridge. Login as usual.
If this does not work, then call customer service, depending on how old it is. I've had ours for over a year, and this still works each time.
