Question about Sylvania 6842-PEM 42 in. EDTV-Ready Plasma Television
Thought I'd try this post to cover all of my bases. As have many on this site with this brand/model of plasma TV I have an issue where the unit will "standby". When you press the power button however it only goes green for about a second and then immediately goes back to standby. Per posts on this site I replaced a capacitor that was obviously blown out but still the unit does the same thing. Any suggestions? I have gone over the unit with a fine tooth comb and I can find nothing visually to indicate there was any damage done when the old capacitor blew. (i.e. blown fuses, etc.)
You probably just need a new main power board. You can buy them from Vance Baldwin, Probably $125 to $150 with S&H. Adjusments are needed with a digital voltmeter while the board is operating in the set. Some techs have told me that the capacitor failure sometimes damaged one of the switching regulator ICs and that those parts were not available. Before we worked out that a special type of capacitor was needed, the capacitors we installed were getting very hot and we knew that they were not going to last long.
