Question about KitchenAid KGRC707 Gas Kitchen Range

Oven not working

Hi,
I have a Kitchenaid gas range, 2 years old, and the oven will not work. It has a dual gas valve and the ignitor will not turn on. I'm suspisious that something may have knocked loose on the dual gas valve, since the problem happend shortly after the storage drawer was overloaded and closed. At that time both the broiler and bake function didn't work. After I disconnected and reconnected the leads to the gas valve the broil unit worked again. Still no luck with the bake function. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Blair

Check continuity on gas valve. the middle connector is common, upper is broil and bottom is bake. Resistance between common and bake should be about the same as between common and broil. I believe you'll need to set the ohmmeter to KOhms (or x1000.

If no continuity between any of the connectors - replace gas valve (not much fun, and part is expensive).

Gas broiler works, but the regular oven works intermittently, can you explain how this can happen.

The ignitor for the oven could be going bad and causing the oven valve to open intermittently. I see this often. Or the oven valve could be going bad... but the usual suspect is the ignitor.

GE profile JGSP44 Oven stopped working

Ignitor needs to be working for the gas valve to open. If the ignitor does not reach the proper amp draw the gas valve will not open. There is a video at www.appliancehelponline.com/servicemanual.html this will walk you thru performing an amp draw test on the ignitor.

Kitchenaid gas oven very slow to start - can be 5 - 10 minutes before I hear it kick on. For a while I could get it to start by turning on a gas burner, but that is 100% effective. Any suggestions? Also...

Replace your ignitor, this is a very common problem. As the ignitor gets older, it gets weaker. When it gets weaker, it usually starts out by not giving good temps in the oven, then it starts to take longer and longer before it lights the oven burner, then it stops lighting the burner completely. A good ignitor heats up fast, allows the current to flow through to the gas valve, opens the gas valve and lights the oven burner within 30 to 50 seconds. When you order your ignitor ask if their is a cheaper generic ignitor for this model. Their can be a huge price difference in some units. You can also have a bad sensor, control board, gas valve, or wiring problem, however for the last 15 or so years every job I have done with your problem has been an ignitor. Kitchenaid gas range model# ykgsc308lso oven

If it takes more than 2 minutes to light then that ignitor is weak. It should be very bright. It has to draw 3.5 amps to open the valve. The valve is good because the ignitor is working the oven control is good, all it can be is a weak ignitor. It should draw 3.5 amps or have measure 37 ohms.

Hi,I have a kitchenaid gas stove and the oven does notwant to heat up. I have it on now for 20min,just barely warm.Any suggestions?

Most likely a bad glow bar ignitor at the oven valve. It must read 3 amps or more to activate the gas valve. Turn the gas off,put a clamp on amp meter on the ignitor wire and turn the oven on. If it reads less than 3 amps, replace the ignitor.

Gas over not lighting

It is likely that the ignitor needs to be replaced. If the range does not sense the proper amount of resistance in the ignitor, it will not turn on the gas valve for the lower burner. If the broiler is still working, it would further this thinking, as it has a separate ignitor.

No Gas in the Oven

You probably have a bad ignitor. If the ignitor does not function correctly the gas valve will not open. Check ignitor by measuring the amps that it draws - It should draw about 3.5 amps.
