Question about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W50 Digital Camera

DSC W55 Not worth it!

I too had a format error while using my BRAND NEW DSC W55, & the only thing that got it working again was a reformat of the memory card which sucked big time because i lost my New Year's Eve pictures. Im really starting to regret getting this Sony Cybershot. Now i have another problem. When I take pictures, the image looks great on preview. But when i scroll to look at the other pictures, the camera reduces the size of the last picture taken to almost 1/4 of its orginal size. It does not matter if I selected VGA, 2M, 3M, 5M, or 7M in the settings. The minute i preview the pictures and scroll through them their sizes change & when i try to resize, it says " Image size over". The other images that were not reduced had exactly the same set up as those that were minimized. The only difference is with the affected pictures, I see a circle icon with an X inside on their display. It does not make sense because when i take the picture they look fine. I've checked and rechecked the set up and so far its been really frustrating. All these problems and the camera isnt even a month old. And the manual does not help, AT ALL. Im seriously thinking of returning it and demanding for a refund.

Your lens is stuck due to either being banged or bumped or there is dirt/grit inside the lens gears. The lens needs to be replaced, but buying a brand new lens is out of the question. Sony will charge $125 just for the lens assembly, it's crazy.

A refurb lens can be installed for about $75 including return shipping. You should check the replacement cost of a used camera and see which is cheaper in the long run.

Hope this helps!

I shot alot of pictures on my sony cyber-shot W55 and when i wanted to view them it says file error

It may be a problem with the memory card. Try the card in a card reader or another sony camera. If it works ok then, you've a camera problem.

If it fails also, it's a card problem, the files are corrupted somehow, the only thing in this case is to re-format the card in you camera, it will be one on the menu options.

The trouble is, when you format, it clears every thing off the card.

Another way is to buy a spare memory card, always handy, if that work ok straight away, again your first card has a problem and probably needs formatting.

If Duo Pro got hardware problem, then it can not be fixed and you can't retieve data on it. Regarding new memory stick, camera will check it and let you know about format it or not.

Have you tried re-formatting the cards? If you can't with the camera you should be able to with a card reader. It's probably the camera, unfortunately, but this is worth a shot...
