Red light on will not run in forward

There is usually a small plastic tab somewhere on the shredder basket, When the basket is inserted into the shredder, (or the shredder head is placed on top of the basket), the tab presses the safety switch, the red light goes out, and the shredder works. Be sure that - 1) the basket is fully seated into the shredder so the tab is pressing the switch - 2) check to see that the tab has not broken. Since they are plastic, they will break, especially if the tab is not alligned to the safety slot and you force the basket.

Check to make sure the shredder is sitting on the paper bin properly. Most shredders have a sensor switch that disables the unit if it's not properly seated on the paper bin.
