Question about Canon CanoScan 8600F Flatbed Scanner
I cannot get my CanoScan to scan film or slides. I have downloaded drivers with my defender off and scanner unplugged but I cannot get this to work. All I ever get as an option is platen.
Check the cable that connects to the lid of the scanner. If it is disconnected, you won't get the Film options.

Check the lamp on the lid, if it's not giving off light, then the cable to the lid is disconnected, or broken, or the lamp is broken, and you can's scan film. The only option that comes up is "platen."

Had the same problem ... could not see the "Film" option in the "Select Source" drop down of CanoScan Toolbox for 8400F for either "Scan-1" or "Scan-2".
Solved the problem by clicking on the "Settings" button on the CanonScan Toolbox, then clicking on Settings "Reset" button. Closed CanoScan Toolbox and voila! The "Film" option became available to me! Able to scan film now.
Hope this helps!
