Question about Mitsubishi WD62628 62" Projection HDTV

Any idea as to why my WD-62628 does this

I have owned my mitsubishi WD-62628 for about a year and it has been pretty good. From time to time it would start to show funny lines but would also fix itself after a few minutes and has not done it for about three months. It started acting up again over the weekend and has not gone back to normal. Any advise would sure be appreciated.

I posted some pics of the problem on my home website:
http://www.scotthenshaw.com/tv.htm

Thanks,

Scott Henshaw

When it is just a blue screen, there is a thin vertical strip of lines, (Sort of like a long thin bar code". When has a picture then it looks like someone ran a comb throught the picture and parts are spread all over the place. I posted some pics on my webite:

I wacked it in the back, (Not to hard) and no change.

The link that you sent did not seem to work...

I live out in the sticks... Only techs in my area charge more to come out and labor than the TV would cost to replace....

I actually already have the service manual...

Look for bad caps
http://www.auctioncreations.com/wd62525a.JPG
Picture of bad caps

The DM board is the one with the digital connectors on the back panel. If you already have it appart, you may as well check the caps on all of the boards. The caps that go bad are typically Jamicon brand caps in 1000 uF and 330 uF values. There are also a couple of 3300 uF caps in the PS that cause problems.

Get a technician to have a look at your vertcal controll circuit, especially the capicators, you may have some cracked solder there..

It could also be the vertical or horizontal controll ic, but hopefully it isnt.. If it happens only when watching tv it self (like a station) it could also be the internal tuner..

  • Rishi Roshan Ali Jan 21, 2008

trust me you will need the tech unless you wish to purchase the service manual for it.. If you want the service manual use google and google your tv brand model service manual, but it might cost more than a tech

Well if you have the service manual, just follow the instructions on trouble shooting the VCC AND HCC and you should be fine,, BTW use a good multimeter.. If you need help doing this let me know

Here are my two suggestions:

ONE: Do a hard reset. Maybe twice. Unplug the power cord and leave unplugged for 4 hours or overnight.

TWO: Give it the whacking test. This will tell you if you have loose connections or cold solder joints acting up.

Yes, it could be high voltage, but I am thinking more along the lines of the vertical deflection system. You mentioned that you had a blue screen, then a blue line across the top before it went totally kaput. This is an indication of the vertical deflection failing.

Therefore, I think that is the place to start. My first suspicion would be the vertical amplifier; next suspicion would be the power supply section feeding the vertical section.

Wd 62628 lamp indicator light is solid yellow / orange what needs to be done

Your lamp cover is not installed. That is what causes the LED to light amber. Remove and re-seat the lamp cover door. There is a switch it hits to tell the TV the door is shut. This is to protect you from electrocution.

It's most probable that you have a ballast issue, it might not have enough power to keep up with the new lamp. That's why you don't get any image.

No picture after changing lamp, tv will not power up.

Try bringing up the menu. If you can't I'd suspect the fmt board if you can suspect the dm module.

You recognise it because you get power cables innesting into the power board.

If you decide to work on your TV, get the service manual first.
