BEFORE DOING ANYTHING DISCONNECT OVEN FROM POWER. I do NOT recommend doing repair by yourself, if you NOT are really very familiar with electric repair, or have at least basic training in electric device repair and maintenance. "When door is opened display goes dark. When door shuts display lights all characters and then says "touch clock"." Obviously, by opening door, oven gets disconnected form power line.
This is mostly caused by loose connections on wiring socket, and can be anywhere inside. Check security micro switch on door latch. This switch normally disables only running the oven when door is open, for security reasons. In your case, it seems that opening door disconnects oven from input power. Sometimes the switch is loose, or wires are not firmly pushed in the socket. If the power line wiring is loose, and by opening door looses contact with socket, it can touch metal housing inside, cause short, electric shock, serious even mortal injury and fire. This is dangerous high voltage switch, and to access it one must open oven from the back and take off the cover. I do not recommend doing it by your self.
Rem: Replacement micro switch is couple dollars.
Remove the cabinet ... check the door safety interlock switches for proper operation. Most of the time, no heat problems can be traced to the oven thinking the door is open. These switches tell the oven if it is open or closed. If they are faulty ... well ... the oven thinks the door is open and will not turn on the heat.
Please check the door safety interlock switches. These are the micro switches inside the case that tell the oven the door is closed. When you open the door while the oven is running, there is an arc on the contacts in the switches and they burn a little. After a while, the switches are no longer able to report the door is closed. When the door is not closed, the heat is not turned on. Forget what you know about the door being closed.
Most microwave oven doors come off by simply opening the door all the way open and lifting straight up at the hinges. You may have to remove the upper grill cover on some models for better access. You can view an exploded view diagram of your oven at pcappliancerepair.com for reference. If you have questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.
micro switch is bad .remove top vent cover 4 screws, after removing plastic vent panel you will see 1 screw above display time window, remove this screw and lift up the complete button time control panel slightly and pull towards you to remove.there are 2 connections on this panel 1 is a 12 pin connector and a 2 pin power connection remove both put control panel aside.now there are 3 micro switches where the door pins close into the oven lock, remove 2 screws that hold the micro switch housing,on the bottom of housing you will see a small clip gently pull to the right and push back to remove .there are 2 switches on bottom of it and 1 on top. the 1 on top is normally open and closes when door is shut but like mine it stayed open and resulted in (light s display but no turntable)soon as i replaced upper microswitch it runs perfect.i hope this helps .MODEL MV1501W GOLDSTAR
