I'm having the same problem, and the steps recommended here don't fix the problem. Should I just take a sledgehammer to it?

I have the same problem. I unplugged from the wall the printer and waited for 30 seconds. Still have the same problem. I was told by an HP technician support on the phone that my sensor is bad and I need to get a new printer. I am 21 days out of warranty. I can still print and copy, except when I turn printer off and then on I will get the alignment prompt. Looks like I have to live with that.

This happened after putting in new ink cartridges. It will not print anything but the alignment page.

  • Anonymous Dec 04, 2008

I called HP about the SAME EXACT issue. The idiot on the other line told me I was out of luck because a year had passed from the point of purchase. I just opened the printer today because my old HP was working fine and I didnt want to open two ink bundles. "waste not want not"...

Either way, it looks like HP built some crappy scanners and are happily giving the consumer the shaft.

F*ck HP...I'm an epson customer for life now.

    How frustrating!!

same problems listed above, can't pass the initial scanner alignment and can't print in color. I have loaded the 150 MB drivers thinking this would cure the color, or lack of, issues................a major POS.

I have had the same problem. When I was trying to fix it, noticed that my color cartridge was almost empty. I understood the alignment page was not prepared well. After changing cartridge, I prepared a new alignment page, then tried it and it worked

Tricky thing about the alignment page is that it has to be in the exact spot for the printer to pick up that it is actually on the glass. I think that it needs to be face down and in the bottom right hand corner. If it still does not recognize I would leave the printer turned on but unplug it from the wall. This should do something similar to a power reset and then wait 30 seconds and plug it back in. As always printers should be plugged into the wall and not into a surge protector.

Also the alignment scan does not show on the computer so if it isn't showing up that is normal. If it's saying that it's not detected try the above steps.

Remove both cartridges, switch off printer and then on. After cartridge holder comes to the center install both the cartridges. Then it will print the Alignment page. After alignment page prints place the Alignment page on to the scanner and press SCAN button as mentioned in the Alignment page. After completing the scan try printing. It will print the usual speed.
Note: For the alignment process both cartridges should in good working state

How do you stop a test page from printing every time the printer is turned on?

Welcome to FixYa!

Here's how to stop the unwanted print out of test pages.

1. Let the printer print the test page.
2. Place the printed test page in the scanner face down and wait for 10 seconds.
3. Press the scan button of the printer to scan the printed test page.
Make sure that the printer scanned the document properly.

That's it. Every time you install a new cartridge, the printer aligns the print cartridge as well as testing/aligning the scanner.

Note: Try to look at the top of the test page, it should have instructions to place it in the scanner.

I hope that this will help.
Thank you for using FixYa.

Why does my HP 1500 prints a test page every time I begin touse it???

HI
As soon as the printer prints the test page or alignment page place it on the scanner glass (Place the printed side down) before that Examine the scanner glass and white scan backing. Clean the scanner glass and scan backing if they are not clean. To clean the scanner glass and scan backing, use a soft cloth towel slightly dampened with clean water.
After That press scan on the printer button panel it will resolve your issue.
Try to double check it by turning it off and turning the printer back on after 2 minute's. If still the problem exists call HP Total Care 800 - 474 - 6836 if you are from US/Canada.
) Lift the lid of the product.
2) Place the top of alignment page face down in the right front corner of the glass.
3) Place the alignment page face down
4) Close the lid.
5) Press the Start Scan button.
6) The Power button light will blink during the alignment process.
7) After the Power button light stops blinking, alignment is complete.

I think the alignment page is printing every time. Disconnect the USB cable from the printer and keep the alignment page face down on the scanner glass and press scan button on the all-in-one. We need to scan the alignment page once the alignment page is printed to complete the alignment process

I visited the HP Support site and downloaded the Uninstaller and then the Installer. It took about 90 minutes but has cured the problem completely. I also made sure all drivers were up to date from the HP site check.
