Question about Sony VAIO PCV-W20 PC Desktop
Hi,I have this sony pcv w20,inherited from my brother, before i was so happy using it ,i works terrific..
but suddenly i experience this problem..the lcd screen was flickering and i tried to re start it,but as soon a the windows shows up on the screen, the lcd screen goes out black..nothing i can do,coz i couldnt see anything on the scree..PLEASE ADVISE..THANK YOU ALL..
I have a PCV-W20 and I had the issues with the flickering screen and
blackouts. After reading a few postings i discovered the issue was a
faulty CCFL. There are two in this unit. I did not know that when I
ordered just one. When it arrived I had already taken the unit apart
and was ready to replace the lamp. After soldering the connections the
figuring out how to put the unit back together, it worked! After
replacing the CCFL lamp the unit does not experience blackouts.
Like I mentioned this unit has two CCFL lamps. When I pulled it out I noticed one was a little darker than the other. I figured this was the one that was bad, and luckily it was.
I do have a line running across the screen now which I have not been able to figure out. Maybe it has something to do with the light escaping from the side. I'm not sure.

Does it flicker if you move the screen back and forth?
If so then you probably have a bad connection between the screen and the system, you would need to replace the video cable going from the screen to the system board.
Is there a little button above the keyboard that the screen would depress when it is closed? If so try pressing that button a few times to see if the screen comes on.
Or do you see a faint picture is you look REALLY!!! close to the screen?
If so the inverter board is faulty and would need to be replaced.
