Philips HDTV does not turn on (by 2 users)

hey guys, i just acquired a 60" hi def rear projection tv from a friend for 75 dollars because it's not working and it was taking up space in his house...

the model number is 60PP9910/17, and this is his description of the problem, and it currently does the same for me

there was a power outage last week, i was watching the tv at the time. Since then, the TV doesn't turn on. The power button lights up and it clicks, but that's all. No picture, no sound, nothing. The next day i tried and it worked fine again, it worked fine for a few days. 5 days later when i turned it on all it did was click, the power button does turn on, but no picture or sound...

any of you fine folks have some direction for me? i'm proficient in working with electronics, i've worked at a bmw dealership for the past 6 years, so testing and measuring doesn't bother me as long as i know what to look for. thanks in advance for all your help!!
