Re: timing problem

Needle cusp and hook have to work simultaneously in order to form a stitch, when needle is going up hook is coming past the needle cusp to lock the stitch, make sure that is happening first

I have a Bernina B380 on the first stitch it sounds like metal hitting metal what's wrong.

If it is the very first stitch after the machine is turned on, then it's just the stepper motor for the feed dogs centering itself. This is normal for computerized machines. If it does it every time you start a new seam, then you are dealing with something different.

You have cooked your motor. Someone should have told you to bring a converter since most former British Colonies operate on the European 220 volt, 50Hz system.

I've spent a lot of time in West and East Africa and discovered that there is always a local craftsman who can do such things as rewire a motor, convert it to 220, or even sell you a converter.

The alternative is to purchase a new motor from Kenmore and have it installed locally if you don't want to do it yourself.

My Bernina 1230 won't shut off. I need to unplug it each time.

I agree about the on & off switch, it could be going out or have a short in it

My singer 1120 sewing machine needle will not move. When I press the foot pedal the motor makes a sound but the machine will not sew. The machine will sew if I crank the hand wheel but it is very...

I presume that you have checked that the clutch to wind bobbins is reengaged?? It is easy to forget sometimes. If your machine has a knob inside the flywheel to do this, then just check that it is fully tighted back up to reenage the motor drive.

Otherwise it may just be the drive belt has worn/broke/is slipping internally. I wouldn't dump it just yet, it may well be repairable.

The motor belt is available here so if parts are on the market then it may well be worth taking it to a repair shop and getting a quote to fix it. Depends on how long you've had the machine and what you paid for it and the cost to repair vs buying a new one.

If you or someone you know is technical, they may want to have a go at opening up the case and seeing what is happening around the drive/flywheel area - just make sure everything is disconnected from the power first.

Industrial sewing machine oil is usually not brand specific but is not interchangeable with automotive motor oil or thinner lubricants. Do not use WD40 or similar type lubricants as a substitute! Check with a local sewing machine repair shop or order online from (search for industrial sewing machine oil) This type of oil should cost less than $15 for 16 oz (before shipping)

I have this machine for over 2 yrs now and I take the bobbin case out and clean there and put a few drops of oil in the middle where the metal thing is. Someone told me not to oil it but I do and it runs great. I also oil where you see the moving parts around the bobbin case. Don't sew jean hems on it as I wrecked my feed dogs. I just ordered a new machine because I got my money out of that one. Love it! Jan

I have the same problem and found that the bobbin case is scratched. These are quite expensive so I hope yours is something more simple. Keeping the bobbin area clean is also a necessity.

Will not run

I had the same problem with my machine, there is nothing you personally can do to fix it. You'll have to find a service tech who can work on it to solve the problem.
