Can not get Laptop to run

I have a Dell Latitude CPi and it was knocked off the counter. I can get power from the supply to the laptop. When I turn it on it is dead. What are the possibilities that it could be. How do I test them?

Do you get anything on the screen? Does it make any noise?

You may want to try an external monitor to see if the LCD is dead.

You will also try to remove the hard drive, CD drive, and any add on cards or devices to try if that will let it start.

Otherwise something got loose inside and you may be out of luck. The best bet in that case would be to get a new system board.

Good Luck!

I have an old dell latitude cpi laptop and i cant connect to wireless.

First, make sure you have a wireless adapter. Not all notebooks have them and you may have to buy one.
Then make sure it is turned on and recognized by your computer.
Finally, search for the wireless network and enter the network key or password.
The person who set up the wireless network will be able to provide this if you don't have it already.

Please vote for my solution if it helps.

the batteries eventually wear out and quit taking a charge. You can run the system without a battery with no ill effects. replacements are about $100 for a new battery

Need to delete bios password on a dell latitude cpi r400gt

I have just done this. One needs to dismantle the laptop first. Solder a push button switch with extended wires across pins 4&5 of the serial eeprom 24c02. Then reconnect the screen, keyboard & a/c power pack. with a tooth pick press power on switch whilst holding push button on. When the factory mode screen comes on release the push button. Next go to bios setup F2 and ALT-p to the password page. Now enter your new password this will overwrite the old pass word. My approach is slightly different to this following method as it is les likely to brick the laptop.

Look under the laptop. There should be button to push to the side(it has a lock picture). After pressing it the hard drive will come out( i dont know if it is a hard drive). After it comes out put it back again. It should help. It worked for me.

Dell latitude laptops cpi cpx won boot up just blinks

If you don't get any fans from the CPU spinning, then there is a problem with actually tripping the power supply in the laptop.

The normal boot sequence is as follows:
1. Power is applied, fans spin
2. CPU receives power and then BIOS is checked
3. RAM then is detected and rest of the system components are quickly checked by BIOS
4. Hard drive is checked for boot sector.

Ask somebody to check the laptop to see if the voltage and amperage from the charger is within tolerance. If it is higher than 130% higher than listed in the voltage or more than 15% higher in the amperage, then the laptop is damaged.

If it is within tolerance, then try removing the actual battery first. If this doesn't help, have somebody check the hard drive. If this boots up in another laptop of the same model, then there is a problem with the transformer in the laptop.

Dell latitude Cpi LCD screen Backlighting?

What do you mean exactly?

To increase or decrease the backlight brightness use Fn-key(next to left Ctrl-key) with up and down arrows.

There is not some key-combination to turn off the screen, you can make your computer turn it off after some time (if you're using XP this can be done in control panel->Power options), or just close the lid :)
