Solution 1:
Clean the timing strip.
Solution 2:
The purge cap (the white sliding mechanism that the print head parks to when it's not in use) may be not lubricated well enough .
Lubricate the sliders with some white grease (don't get it on the small wipers or the black caps); this repair probably require to remove the right panel off of the printer to gain access to the purge mechanism.
It could just be that the cartridges are loose. Slide the cartridge holders over to the left after popping the hood. If both cartridges are not in place, look to the bottom right area under the hood. Fish 'em out and replace. Don't slam the printer when it won't feed paper. Go wash your hands.

ok..........As a technician, I have worked on tons of printers. This particular error had stumped me for a while, but I finally found the cause. As others had pointed out before, it can have alot to do with some obstruction in the print path, the gears, or ink on the clear plastic encoder strip. You're on the right track - I found the the purge cap (the white sliding mechanism that the print head parks to when it's not in use) was not lubricated well enough from factory. If you lubricate the sliders with some white grease (don't get it on the small wipers or the black caps) the mechanism can now slide more freely, and the unit can park the head properly without giving you the dreaded head homing error 5100 (or E-2-2 on the LCD display) Keep in mind that this repair will probably require you to remove the right panel off of the printer to gain access to the purge mechanism. There are two screws behind the printer, and two in front for each corrosponding side panel (the front screws are behind the grey front panel of the printer - open the top cover to see the clips which hold the front cover on) Hope this helps some of you out.

Hi,
This error means that there is something obstructing the printing
process. Check inside your printer through the gears that you can see
under the lid. There should be something obstructing the gears such as
dirt or even some paper caught underneath
the rollers that you have to jiggle around to even see. Check very thoroughly..
Hope this helps

Open up the hood, slide the ink cartridges to the far left, and check for a small silver piece that has dislodged from the far right side of the interior. You will probably need a flashlight to see. It is about the size of a folded paperclip. Even if it is still in place, remove it anyways because the printer identifies it as an obstruction. It serves no purpose so do not feel apprehensive about doing this, it will fix this problem.

If you move the head to the right side and look into the machine. You will see on the left a circular clear plastic disc. Its not perfectly clear but it will have either come away from its fixing or it may have some grease on it. Clean it as best as you can. Also behind the print head there is another clear plastic strip (not disc) which runs the full width of the machine. Also clean this.
Hopefully that should do the job.
