Question about IBM ThinkPad T40 2373 Notebook

1 Answer

T40 only works at an angle

I have a T40 2373 that would not start for me the other day (would not even load to the Welcome screen). After 6 tries, it started, funcioned for an hour, then the screen went black. (no error message, just black) and it would not start up again.
I can now get it to start if, and only if, I hold it at an angle. (35% inclined forward seems to be prefered. thats about Spanish Texts and a Harry potter if you are scoring at home).

Its not a problem with the screen, as I have tried jacking in an external monitor. which also only will display when the computer is at an angle.
It does not reset when the screen goes from working-not-working.

I have stripped out everything i am comfortable removing and checked all screws, everything appears tight.

Cant afford another and need it for work

I have a similar problem. Basically when I press the power button, the laptop powers up and the fan starts running but nothing else happens. Once I take the battery out and move the laptop over, it starts up again. I am wondering if there is a loose connection somewhere and how it can be fixed. Any suggestion would be welcome. Thanks.

Hi,
A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Good luck!

Well in the start up process this is really what happen the first couple second of the computer starting up...
the first couple seconds after hitting the power button it does a hardware check..
All hardware passed it proceeds to the software check the drivers and stuff...
if the computer comes to a black screen after start up, or any weird writings, then basically some hardware didn't pass the test and failed causing the start up to fail...
If thats the case i would recommend taking it into a local repair store or calling manufacturer if still under the standard 1 year warranty...
nothing to lose, but a welcome screen to gain, give it a shot...

This problem is occurs when your windows was corrupted. Insert recovery disk and then start your PC. Recover your windows. This will need to format your C drive. After this, start windows, it will start normally as before.

All funcions freeze.have to switch off and start again .crash's screen goes blank' it is only four monts old

Try to start the compute in safe mode, and check if the computer works without any issue, to access safemode, you have to press the F8 key while you get the Acer Logo.

Try restoring the Operating system by pressing Alt+F10 when you get the Acer logo and follow the screen.
