Re: Taking bag holder off

Yes, you should see a clip inside the bag housing unfasten, can be hard, you will see it when you unzip it

Blue plastic bag holder on oreck upright detached - how to put it back in?

Amy, not sure from your description whether the outer part is what came off or the smaller, inner part came off. If it is the outer part, all you need to do is squeeze the two prongs of the inner part of the bag holder together and slip the two pegs into the holes on the outer part of the holder. If the inner part came off then you have to spread it, so that it will go over the opening on the handle, and then follow the directions I gave to install the outer part. Hope this helps.

Electrolux Epic Series 6500 SR. The machine is 15 yr. old & is working beautifully. However, when operating it emits a terrible stink, like cat *****. I've changed bags & filters but no ch

You need to have the vacuum cleaned out. If you are good with tools, just remove the motor and fans assembly, take the fans off and wash them. Brush ALL dirt out of the housing and reassemble. Your Electrolux dealer can do this but it isn't cheap. I used to be the service manager for my area. Since it isn't under warranty, you can have ANY reliable vacuum cleaner shop give a good cleanout. NEVER put anything into the cleaner to make it smell good. Electrolux cleaners get their power by having a straight through suction. The air goes through the motor. Adding smelly things can crystallize onto the motor and burn it out.

My vacumn cleaner stinks when in use, but it is not the bag to full?

I only know how to do things in a systematic approach so if I ask to many questions and this response seems to wordy disregard.

First: What type of stink are we talking about? Burned Rubber like a belt being worn out? Or stink like a junk yard?

Second: Do you use through away bags or just empty the bag and and reuse it?

Third: Does it have any air filters (Hepa stuff like that)?

Fourth: If you remove the bag from the cleaner and run the machine do you still have the stink?

These aren't solutions as much as troubleshooting.

The bags keep falling off

The nozzle pictured upon which the bag holder mechanism broke on my machine. Took it to Oreck dealership twice and he kept replacing the bag holder, but mostly trying to sell me a new vac.

Problem was, the bag holder mechanism itself was no longer attaching to the exhaust port because a major portion of the attachment device simply went missing. Notice that in the pics I post there is obviously something missing. A product failure. We don't abuse our stuff.

Solution? I drilled two small holes on either side of the bag holder mechanism and then fed a very small zip tip around the mechanism and around the plastic cloth bag holder support so it can no longer disconnect. Key to this is to feed the zip tie from behind the plastic cloth bag holder support so that the fat part of the zip tie does not interfere with the connection of the bag support to the bag holder.

Here's a pic of what I did.

Dust smell when running g4 kirby

The dusty smell coming from my G4 finally drove me to search out the problem. As it turned out, the fill tube had cracked near the top of the mini emptor (the boot) and dust and crumbs were escaping from the tube and into the cloth bag. I tried to repair the split with duct tape and electrical tape, but to no avail. I finally gave up and ordered a new fill tube online for about $8. This took care of the problem, and the machine works like new with no more dusty smell.

Vacuum bag busted

Greetings from,

Yes, you certainly can take off the outer bag of your Oreck and wash it in the washing machine. You DO NOT however want to put the bag through the dryer!!!!! Just hang the bag outside, and let it air dry. It is important to make sure that the bag is 100% completely dry before you use the machine again. If the bag is wet, it will cause dirt to turn to mud in the bag, and probably cause a foul odor when you use the bag.

There are 2 different types of bag systems with Oreck vacuums. The one pictured below is the older style that uses a metal clamp to hold the bag in place. The newer docking system, will be a white plastic clamp that holds the outer bag in place. They both will be removed the same way however. Simply take a screwdriver and pry off the clamp;

Once you have removed this clamp, simply pull the outer bag off. Once it has been washed, and the bag is 100% completely dry, put the outer bag back over the bag housing as far as it will go. When you put the clamp back on, it is imperative that the clamp go behind the plastic ridges, to ensure that it is tightly fastened. If the clamp is not put on correctly, this will cause the inner paper bag to fall off during vacuuming. Make sure that the clamp is in the right position when putting the bag back;

If you have any further questions, please feel free to email them to me. I really enjoy sharing my knowledge an passion about vacuum cleaner, and vacuum repairs. We do stock all Oreck parts, so if you need any parts, please let me know.

Cleaning and replacing the bag may help-it sounds like it may have gotten wet at one time.You couls also sprinkle baking soda lightly over your carpet and that may help absorb odours in the system. If the hose is detachable and any other pieces you can wash them with a vinegar solution.
Hope that helps. tc

Removal of cloth bag on Hoover Concept One to wash

Remove the bag fill tube. If you look at the plastic holder it fits into, you will see two oval shaped recesses. Take a flat blade screwdriver and insert into the holes. Pry the driver by pulling gently towards the centre of the machine. This will release the clips that hold the plate on the unit. Once removed, also remove the two philips screws on the plastic plate on the bottom of the bag. This will allow you to remove the bag. If you want to wash it, be careful and do it by hand. These bags are no longer available.
