How to hook up a denon avr -1706 receiver To a lg smart tv

If you are tuning in TV stations with the TV set, you will need either an optical or a coaxial audio cable to go from the digital audio out of the TV to a digital audio in on the receiver. This setup should give you 5.1 Dolby digital sound. You can also use a pair of red and white rca cables, but you will only have 2 channel sound. You may need to set the TV to output the audio to external speakers. You will need to set the receiver to the input the TV audio is connected to.

If you want to watch Sat or Cable, you probably need a couple of HDMI cables. One HDMI cable will go from the output of the Sat/Cable box to the appropriate HDMI input on the receiver. The second HDMI cable will go from the Monitor Out on the receiver to an HDMI Input on the TV. You may need to set the receiver to output HDMI audio from the receiver, and not the TV. You will need to set the TV to the HDMI Input you connected to on the TV. You will also need to set the receiver to the input the Sat/Cable box is connected to.

Details of both of these setups should be covered in the receiver and the TV manuals. Refer to them for the detailed connections and settings you need to make.

Good Luck!

My Sony STR-DN2010 Shuts off When I turn up volume. Also, the HDMI Out to the TV stopped working.

The unit shutting down when you turn it up sounds like a bad speaker hooked up to it. That is the most likely cause. As far as the hdmi problem, with the receiver turned off, press and hold the power button until it says 'clearing' on the front panel. This will reset the unit. Many times it is just a setting that is messed up. If that doesn't fix the hdmi problem, then there is most likely a problem with the hdmi switching IC which will require that board to be replaced.

Run both audio and video to the tv, then use the tv optical audio out to go back to the receiver. The problem is, when you split the signal, the tv takes longer to decode the hdmi signal =, thus delaying it from the original audio signal.

When i turn on my ps3, the green light stays on and the tv screen doesn't even change. i changed the cords to make sure the audio/video wasn't just out. i tried to enter 'recovery mode' but it won't even...

If you have a "slim" ps3, it does not beep 3 times. Try this.
First, with the system off, plug in your old red, white, yellow cables into the tv. (make sure your tv is on the correct setting). Now, just turn on the ps3 the regular way. Did you hear the sounds it normally makes when booting up (the ps3 boot music?). If so, thats good. If you did not, check again that the tv is on the right channel, and if possible, try another set of red, white, yellow cables.

If you heard sound, but do not get a picture, turn the ps3 back off. After the red light comes on, hold your finger down on the power button for about 5 seconds. If you have a fat ps3, it will beep 3 times after a few seconds to get back to regular tv mode. If you have a slim ps3, it will beep once, then 1 more time a few seconds later. It should reset and turn back on. If your tv is on the right channel and the cables work, then you should now see a picture and you know your audio/video is working. You can now try your HDMI cable and it should prompt you to use the HDMI at this point.

Hope that helps.
Mike!

When I connect my laptop to my tv with an HDMI cable the video works but the sound comes out the laptops speakers. How do I get sound to the tv?

What operating system are you using? If you are using Windows 7, right click on the Volume icon on the system tray and select "Playback Devices". A window would pop up showing you speaker and HDMI. Select HDMI and then choose the "Set Default" Button on top of the OK button. Thats it! If you want the sound to come out of the laptop again when you disconnect the HDMI from your TV, you have to do this again, then choose the speakers.
Cheers!

Just got Panasonic Home Theater and using Digital Audio cable along with HDMI cable. Cables are coneccted and when I do a speaker test all work fine. When I play my Wii the sound is coming out the Tv not...

What kind of TV do you have?
I have found one of the easiest ways to connect surround system is to connect all your accessories (ie. Wii, Cable Box, VCR, etc) to the TV.

Next find the AUDIO OUT on the TV and connect this to the TV or AUX input on the home theater.

Tune the Home theater to the Input that you connected the TV to. This should play the audio through the home theater for any input you tune the TV to.

Note: make sure to turn the TV volume all the way down otherwise there will be some distortion due to the delay between the TV and the home theater.

Good Luck,
Robert

Input 5 not playing audio via HDMI or stereo

HDMI can be problematic. Follow these steps in order for the best success with HDMI.

1) With all devices off, turn the TV/monitor on first and wait for it to come on.

2) Select the HDMI input.

3) Turn on the next HDMI device (stereo amp if it comes before the video device, or the video device itself and let it come on.

4) Play the video.

Some video devices may need the audio output to be set to PCM or 48k/96k datastream to work correctly.

If this doesn't help, you may have a compatibility issue with your HDMI device. Usually it is the fault of the player/video receiver and rarely the display/TV. All the TV/monitor does is query the source device as to what type it is and the resolutions it's supports.
