Re: RCA DRC246N Power problem

Upon visible inspection, C411 in power supply was swollen. 1000 microfarad 10Volt. Replaced with slightly larger 1000 microfard 25 volt I had on another old board. Powered on ........ works fine.

Re: RCA DRC246N Power problem

I had this problem after only a few months of use! There were some bad capacitors on the power supply board. Replacing them fixed the player. They used cheap electrolytic capacitors on this unit; check them all while you have it open.

Is the fuse located before or after the main power switch?

If the answer is before the main switch, then maybe you should also check the main power switch (dirty contacts - these may cause insufficent voltages from the power supply).

Note that the (electrolytic) capacitors can be faulty but will not have visible damage, so check the DC voltages on the power supply output and try to replace the associated capacitors if the voltages seem to be too low (usually, there will be 12 and 5 volts outputs, sometimes a 3 volt output on some brands/models).

If it turns out that these voltages are not present at all, then there may be damage to the transformer driver IC (i'm assuming this is a switching power suply) - see if there is any AC voltage present at the secondary terminals of the transformer, if there is none, then the primary is most likely not being driven by the 110 V and this points to the driver IC as the possible cause. It may also be some other component in the primary section, but you said you've checked them out, so i don't know what else to suggest.

Hope you can fix it.

I cannot get power on dvd player is plugged in properly

Check to make sure the fuse hasnt blown in the Plug, if thats fine then there is a problem with the power board inside the dvd player, this could be down to a blown internal fuse which has blackend due to a short circuit, then thats an indication that some of the parts on the DVd player power board have shorted.

Rca lyra 3030 will not turn on

If your handy open it up and check the master fuse on the power supply. If it is good then the power supply is bad and not worth fixing. DVD players are throw away items now a days. But Id check the fuse thing as this is most commly the problem with electronics that wont even power up.

Sony DVP-NS55P DVD player will not power on. No LEDs light and no display message appears when the on/off button is depressed (dead). Fuse on power supply board is ok, no components look fried,...

If it is the power supply then the whole unit should be replaced. Or it indeed may be the power on button its self. Only technician with the appropriate knowledge of the particular machine will be able to tell and have the means to check it out.
