My son's 16gb ipod touch went through the washer. It seems to be dried out and we re-loaded everything from itunes but it doesn't power up unless the power cord is plugged in. Could it be the battery??

Seems to be a generic issue here, the probable reasons why the ipod aint playing are: 1) the battery must have been discharged 2)battery destructed due to short-circuit
Possible solution: 1) Allow the ipod to get charged for about 3 hours, then try playing 2) If 1 does'nt work try changing the battery from apple store Hope this helps

Ipod nano went thru washer, now won't work

I did the exact same thing to my iPod nano 3rd gen. I discovered it by the noise it made in the dryer when it fell out of the pocket. Clack! Clack! It seemed dead, but it made a full recovery. What I did was put it on the dashboard of my car for a couple of sunny days to dry out, recharged it, and it was fine. If you have particularly hard water, maybe you'd want to try dipping it in some distilled water just to get rid of any mineral residue before drying it out. I'm impressed with how tough these dudes are. Good luck.

Washing Machine..........

THIS ONE WORKED FOR US !!!!!!!! My son ran his I-pod nano through the washing machine. We found it at the end of the cycle. The i-pod wouldn't do anything. We took it and used a hair blowdryer holding it while blowing hot air "at" it. Than I placed it standing up on the counter with paper towels under it for a day. After 3 days, we both thought it was DOA. But I tried one last thing. I plugged it into the computer and opened i-tunes. I clicked to restore it to factory settings and it started charging. I than click on to reload all his songs and in a few minutes it was up and running. If fact I am listening to it as I enter this entry.

Sorry to say there isn't much you can do, Apple wont fix it because that type of accident isnt covered under the warranty. you'd be best off buying a new ipod.

Sounds like it's off to the apple shop for repairs. He might have broken something on the main board when it was dropped.

Dryer Issue

Ouch! Unfortunately, the Video iPods are more fragile, electrically, than most (and there's a lot of static and heat in a dryer). Also, the hard drive probably didn't appreciate being tumble-dried! If you want to attempt to repair it, first try a new logic board from iFixit. They have parts and free step-by-step repair instructions. You may also need a new hard drive. After attempting to replace both, it's not worth saving, unfortunately (you can get a refurbished Video iPod from Apple's site for roughly $200).
