Brother MF 9420CN is asking for troubleshooting and routine maintenance 'unable 2 print', What do I do? Reset maybe? How would I reset the printer?

Comment by Firemann, posted on Jan 22, 2008

do u guys know where the battery is for the printer? I think the printer logs 'millage' and sends errors according to that. I've found some to be false.

Ok maintenance on the printer is actually simple, seeming that I now asked brother to collect the 34 mfc 9420's and 8 mfc 8440's I figured out that u press menu then mono start then the up arrow 4 times, (the maintenance screen will appear, press 77 print a page from the pc and then press 99. The unable to print error will go away. Also thanks to this website I was tought how to clear that opc belt error. 1 and 7 at the same time, 1 for reset...

I have a Brother MFC-8440 and the maintenance fault # 7 came up. I just fixed the problem pressing the menu and select buttons at the same time then turn on the printer main switch. After this the fault completely clear and is working fine since. Does any body know if that was a proper way to fix this problem?

Have the same message but the steps dont seem to fix it. Rang Brother and they will get back to me next week. This is a fax needed 24/7 so 2-3 days for a response sucks! Going to buy a new fax from a reputable company with a 24 hour support service.

I was printing on the MFC 9240CN and got a message "no OPC belt". I took the belt unit out and put it bcak in and printed 10 more copies. Then "unable to print" message so I followed the manual and switched the printer off, waited switched it on and printed another 10 copies. THen got "no OPC belt" error again. I removed the OPC unit wound it on a little and put it back to print another copy. I am not sure if I've fixed the problem though.

My MFC-9420cn is demonstrating the same problem. At first I thought it was because the "parts life" indicated that "PF Kit" life was down to zero.
The Users guide did not help at all. After considerable on line research I found that the PF Kit is only on machines with the second paper tray -- so my machine did not have a PF KIt. I went to the trouble of obtaining firmware update "version j" and installing it It did convince the machine that there was NO PF KIT, but did not solve the problem. Next, I replaced the OPC belt I was using with one that I bought recently which makes streaks. I had spent over $300 in response to the message which said "Replace OPC Belt cartridge but the new one started making streaks after about 300 pages, so I put the original back in - [it made white marks on a color picture -- but I can live with it ]. When I put the defective [but low page count] unit back in, the message seemed to have stopped. So I have 4 choices: 1) use old cartridge - run a few pages, get message, turn off for several hours, start again; 2) run with newer OPC BELT, get horrible streaky pages and faxes I can't read; 3) Spend another $300 and hope I get a good OPC BELT. 4) try to figure out how to defeat the page count feature on the original OPC BELT cartridge. I cannot find any phone number or email link to complain. I feel that this machine is a joke on the public. SHAME ON BROTHERS. I HAVE BEEN MPCed.
