My husband was mowing with an Exmark Quest riding mower and ran over an extension cord. It stalled and won't start again.

The flywheel is locked to the crankshaft with a aluminium key. If the engine is abruptly stopped this soft aluminium key will shear off and let the flywheel turn. The shaft quits turning and the flywheel don't. This is to avoid breaking the crankshaft. When the flywheel turns or spins on the crankshaft it puts the spark timing out of time and will not run, it might backfire or spin and stop or just spin over.

Exmark disengages and backfires after runing for 1/2 hour or so

The backfire indicates a timing problem. Did you hit something at some point in the past? If so you may have damaged not sheared your timing key, this would still allow you to start your machine. If your mower runs for a short period, it warms up enough to put timing out. What I mean is when hot expansion, when cold contraction. Check your shear key for the problem. GOOD LUCK FRIEND.

Exmark mower will not turn over

check that the battery isn't dead. if it's good then check the fuse to the solenoid, then check the solenoid by jumping across the two terminals. if it cranks over by jumping the solenoid then it is either defective or you have a wiring issue from the key to the solenoid

Ihave a vanguard 20 hp v twin on my snapper mower you turn the key and get like a kluk sounds like its coming from starter

Does it do it every time? First try and turn your engine by hand counter clockwise and try to start..sometimes the engine stops on a compression stroke and Is Under too much pressure for the initial start,..happened to my cub cadet laast week...,,if it turns and still gets a click...test or charge your battery..if it is ok you either have a bad solenoid or starter...first find the solenoid and croosing the two big post..it should spin the engine..if it spins it is your solenoid if not the starter is bad...not a hard job for either...both can be purchased at your local mower place...giid luck

2 mowers 19.5 hp and 27hp kohler, both die when you let off brake

Sure sounds like an elusive safety switch to me. There's usually one on the seat, the blade control, and the brake.
